4-5 player packs

By ghost81, in WFRP Archived Announcements

Hey all, I love the game and am running my current campaign in Warhammer FRP, but I have one burning question, is there any chance you will be producing an additional player pack, with extra campaign boxes, basic skill cards and odd tokens (such as timing tokens, stance tokens and puzzle piece tokens) to allow us to add a couple more players? I think this would be a prime product at maybe a $10- $15 level, heck even throw in a few random skill cards, or sell 4 of these each focusing on a broad class for about $20, with 3 new careers for warriors, scholars, rouges, and workers each with 2 basic careers, and one advanced career, would probably sell like hotcakes. Honestly I want something to let me place a few more players in game more than a GM screen, or campaign book (both I'll buy just because I am a WHFRP junkie!)

You can buy The Adventures Toolkit - it's a next for players and features cards for the 4th player.

I think what would make the most sense would be a 2-player expansion pack, with nothing more than the necessary extra sets of basic action cards (and common Improved cards), about a dozen puzzle-fits, hourglass/stance pieces, 2 character-keeper boxes, a couple of new stand-ups and bases, and maybe a set of dice.

Together with the Adventurer's Toolkit, that would accommodate just about every group of players, without giving them a lot of duplicates of stuff they don't need (such as the careers from the AT).

I also agree !!

should be fine in the Game Master Toolkit to have enought stuff to add 2 more players !

because actualy, even with the Adventurer Toolkit you can only play with 4 guys ! and my tables are through 5 to 6 usualy !!

thank's

That is SO true. Please FFG guys, read this topic :)

Agreed.

I usually GM a rather large group of players (from 8 to 9), and while a copy of the AT will be more than needed, a "generic" extra players set would be great.

from 8 to 9 ? That seems pretty counter-immersive, hu ?

We have always played with group sizes of 2-3 with the odd 4 player session, so in that regard 3rd edition is perfect for us. But if we buy the adventurers toolkit, will there also be extra advanced defence cards, because that's the only thing missing from the core game (there is only advanced defence cards for one player).

Extra cards for extra players is really the most important thing that's missing. Buying the adventurer's kit is not a very attractive option. I mean, it has lots of cool stuff, but when I have 6 players, I'm not going to pay $90 for three Adventurer's Kits. I might as well buy a second basic set.

What WFRP 3 really needs is a very cheap box that has exactly what you need for one or more new players, and nothing more. Aim at $10 instead of $30, then I'll gladly buy a couple of them. For other stuff that I need extra of (duplicate advanced action cards, new careers, etc), just give me a box with a ton of that kind of stuff, so I can just buy one, instead of having to buy one for every player.

I don't mind paying for stuff I need, but I really don't need 3 Swordmaster career cards.

I just bought two copies of the core set for $60 each, which made it only $20 more than the retail price for one set.

If i have one gripe about this new system it would be that it caters for a specific number of players very like a boardgame

I have just come across my first stumbling block in so much that i have two players who both want to create characters in the same career. I would love to be able to give both their own copy of the career sheet but i won't be able to so..... they'll have to share (this can be problematic amongst some gamers) along with the associated cards etc

This seems to be my only option. I really hope that along with more copies of the required action cards, stance pieces that extra career sheets will somehow be available.

Ultimately these things are all components that are lovingly put into a box. Surely you guys at FFG will be able to release a component list from which extra items can be ordered to allow games masters to tailor their box of tricks.

This version of the game is great and has great potential but having the game require a high number of specialised components which replace minatures, rulebooks etc comes with a price.........where can we get replacements if we lose some .......i'm sure you've thought of this before me.

Can you guys let me know what you think?

My first worry it's to lose o damage some component or card. If I miss an action card, there aren't any (cheap) way to replace it...

My sentiments exactly.

Perhaps the guys at FFG could work something out with Paizo if they don't want to do these things in-house, but here's what I am looking for, even though a few of these things are similar to things already listed...

*packets of extra/replacement career sheets...maybe once the Gamemaster's Toolkit and Gathering Storm are released, you guys should put out a deck of just all the currently available career sheets.

*as noted already, packs of say five or six character keepers with different themes on them to expand the number of players we can track. I know the core box supports 3 players, but we've already sent up the cry...many of us play at times (or all the time) with much larger groups.

*character standups representing variations on the careers available. Yes, this one was as much my girl-friend's idea as mine...she complained after looking at the standups that there were not enough female combatant standups...lol.

As for other things, I am still waiting for stats on the Black Guard of Morr and if someone can pm me with a link, I'd be keen to see if there are any rules for converting between 2e and 3e. I've got a number of fan-made careers that I'm keen to move up into WFRP3.

from 8 to 9 ? That seems pretty counter-immersive, hu ?

Not really. There's very little distraction at the table, thanks to a number of factors.

Sure there is... Buy a whole new box! I'm surprised you didn't see that yourself. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Seriously, what I'd like to see is not an Adventurer's toolbox, but a real Player's Kit. The Adventurer's Toolbox is more an expansion for the core box than it is a player's kit.

A player's kit should Include:

  • 1 storage box like what the Adventurer's Toolkit comes in.
  • 1 full deck of careers
  • 1 pad of character sheets
  • 1 set of tracker puzzle pieces (center + 4 pieces and a track location indicator)
  • 1 sheet containing a small variety of non-specific career character stand ups (Male and Female represented... About 12 -18 will do for various races, levels of armor and gender.)
  • 2 Stands
  • 1 Stance indicator for stand up
  • 1 set of basic skill cards
  • 1 Digest version of the Core Rules (basically just the main rulebook condensed and the rules mechanics from the tome of mysteries and tome of blessings minus all of the fluff)

I'm fine with the talent and skill cards coming in the Core Box, honestly, but why can't a kit be put together like what is detailed above? This would easily allow expansion of players. I was thinking of including dice, but those are already sold in packs, so there is no need for those anymore in a players kit.

For a kit like what is mentioned above, I can see players paying easily $40.00 to $50.00 for this.

I'm not recommending that either the Adventurer's kit or the Core Boxed Set be changed, but Player's Kits would go a long way to making this game more accessible to larger groups.

Agreed - and what is amazing is that FFG have not replied to this thread! Which is a real shame. I have bought everything so far for WFRP3 but with 5 players and me, we are 1 pack of cards short of the needed basic cards, and likewise I am fearful of losing one!!!

Come on FFG - get your fingers out of somewhere, produce a simple players kit, with basic cards, a set of dice, a small number of pc sheets.......argh! Until then I won't be able to run this great looking game (I refuse to buy the tookit again for £20 - all for the sake of about 20 cards!).... I may just scan them in and thus save myself the wait- but I'd rather get some nice new cards, at a reasonable cost!

I think $40 or $50 would be a bit much, but it'd definitely be well worth $30. And it's worth buying more than one from, unlike the current Adventurer's Toolkit.

I've got the feeling that FFG intended the Adventurer's Toolkit to fit this purpose, but got completely sidetracked and ended up releasing something completely unfit for that purpose.

The adventurer's toolkit needed a character keeper and it would have filled the role, it was a mistake to not include that imo.

My typical D&D groups have always been me as DM and 6-8 players... my WFRP group is me and 3 players, but I do hope in the future more players will join, so a 4-5 player 'generic' expansion pack would be great, and even though I wouldn't use it 'now', I would still purchase to have on hand if needed. It would be a fairly low cost and easy to produce item since everything it would need already exists, I think this is a no brainer for them to produce.

Yeah, i completly agree, although i dont see a need for a full deck of careers and additional stands. These are already in the core set, and there should not be a need for two like careers in a party, instead i think it would be much more valuable and relevant to include a set of dice.

  • A good set of dice.

This could be interesting and use full if FFG would make a Player's Toolkit, I completely agre but I would iclude in it:

* 2 character boxes.
* 1 pad of character sheets
* 10 pre-built progress trackers (5 with 2R to 2C, 5 double sided 3R/C to1R/C)
* 3 set of basic skill cards (2 for player and one extra)
* 1 small players booklet (with name generator, birthplace and so on)
* an extra set of dice.

That's how I would like to see it. :)

I agree with a lot of what is being said as this is a primary reason for me and my group not being able to fully enjoy the game.

I think the hard core books will help but there must be an expansion set to accomodate more players.

Come on ffg...

Yeah, what's this about? The base box only supports 3 players? What kind of garbage is that? I just ordered my game, but now I'm thinking of returning it. My group runs five players and there is no way I can afford to spend another 100 bucks to cover the additional people; nor should FFG expect me to! What kind of rpg has a set player limit included? I'm going to look at the plausability of just photocopying some of the pieces, but even if this is possible, the necessity is downright stupid. Come on guys, I understand you want to make money, but this is not the way to go about it!

The only thing limiting the players is the number of basic action cards. The core set comes with 3 sets. There are 3 solutions I've seen.

1. Adventure's Toolkit has another set of basic actions.

2. Many groups share basic actions. Most of them never get any recharge tokens on them, and it's easy enough to track the few that do.

3. Some people ditch the cards and go for a sheet that has all the info on it. It saves space, and eliminates the so called player cap. There is a great one made somewhere on this board.

So, while technically the core only supports 3 players and a GM, it takes very little to change (or ignore) that.
