SJPA 2016 Armada Group Championship

By Stasy, in Star Wars: Armada Battle Reports

So I opted to head to Top Deck Games in Wesmont, NJ instead of heading to the CT Regional. Mostly because I know the guys in the group, and I really didn't have a whole lot of practice heading into this weekend. Without further ado, my list:

MC80 CC w/ Toryn, Exp Hangar, LS's
Pelta CS w/ Rieekan, Shields to Max
2x CR90 w/ TRC
Biggs, Jan, 3x X Wings

Round One vs Scott:
Hyperspace Assault, I had 1st player

Scott kept his one VSD II in reserve. I was concerned about the hull he had, but it ultimately never came to fruition. My fighters shredded through his, while he held his VSD out until turn 4. It wasn't until then he had my ships in a good position to flank. While he took out my Pelta and my one TRC90, I managed to bomb the snot out of the Int. After that, he had one more shot at my MC80 and a possibility to gain some points... (see below how it worked out for him). Ultimately between my TRC90 and the big side arc of my MC80, I tabled him. I think he got nearly half of my points in the end.

Round 2 vs David:
Blockade Run, I again had 1st Player

I Know David, we talk often about Armada in some group chats, and he's a great player. I dropped my speed hard, and expected the action would all be late game. Good news for me: I beat up Demo, I beat up his Arc's, and I even killed Tarkin on his flotilla. The bad news; he took out the Pelta and some of the fighters. Between the points for making it into the end zone and the ship he dropped, he won the game, but it was roughly within 80 pts of eachother.

Round 3 vs Colin:
Most Wanted, you guessed it, I was 1st again!!!

I only took one photo, turn 2. But ultimately, It didn't go well for me. I figured he'd bite hard on the Pelta, but the MC80 was my MW ship (and he put his on the Flotillia waaaaaay over in the corner). His Demo came in, and ultimately the Raiders mopped up my MC80. My dice went mediocre, and I couldn't do much past finish one raider and roughly 1/2 of his fighters. I kept the Pelta and CR90's alive, but lost some of my fighters in a desperate attempt to kill some of his/keep the Pelta alive. I would blame my decision to bump to speed 2 as a possible fail point. IF I didn't though, he'd have just blocked my travel with the raiders. Maybe I could have turned in sooner, but... speculation. Ultimately this was a pretty serious loss.

Wrapup:

I finished 7th of 14 and had 16 points for the day. I ended up playing the people who finished 8th(Scott), 2nd (David), and 6th (Colin). I had never played this list of mine, and the area down there has a serious hard-on for Imperial Lists, heavy on Demo, heavy on Arcs*, and light on Rhymer. So I was glad I took a Rebel list (I want to say maybe 6 of us did out of the group). And honestly, I like this list a lot. The Jan, 3 X's, and Biggs (in the Toryn bubble) for 77 points is downright efficient. What would I change? I'm leaning towards dumping a TRC90 and moving to a Flotillia. Also moving some upgrades around, specifically dumping the Pelta's Fleet command upgrades to add more fighters/make those semi equal shots from the MC80 and Pelta/CR90 more efficient. I think the Pelta's only saving graces are that I can make a ok carrier out of it, and that it's front arc is good enough to consider running it again over a Neb (and it's weaknesses). Don't bother wasting the points on it's fleet commands... you'll never recover enough to justify not using those points else where IMO.

I'm a little tired since the trip was 2-1/4hrs one way. I didn't get home till midnight and I definitely didn't sleep great. Sorry for not having more specifics. But if you ask, I can probably take a stab at it.

*- Running gag was that Stephen, the guy who won the tournament had a problem with the Arc. He couldn't fit 6 of them in his list.

That dice roll was just the beginning of pure Armada awesomeness. Your squadron choices were excellent.
