Any experiences running "The Tale of Rose Red and Snow White"?

By johnmarron2, in WFRP Gamemasters

In 2008 Mathias Stahle put out a fan made adventure for WFRP 2E called The Tale of Rose Red and Snow White . The adventure is based on classic fairy tales, but is still very Warhammer (Grim and Perilous). The .PDF of the adventure is amazingly professional (I printed out mine and had it bound, so it's a nice as many professionally published adventures I have), with great layout, maps, NPC portraits, etc.

I'm thinking of using the adventure to fill the gap between running Eye for an Eye (starting tonight!) and whenever The Gathering Storm comes out, and was wondering if anyone has run it and how it went.

Other contenders are A Rough Night at the Three Feathers (which I ran in 1E) and Ghost of Mondstille , and I may need to run multiple filler adventures depending on when TGS comes out and how many sessions Eye takes.

That sounds almost perfect for my group; I'm trying to collect a binder of things they might like. Where would one come by a copy of that these days? (I Googled it, but didn't see anything.)

Link? :)

I have no idea where I got the file at this point, but I have a zipped bundle of the adventure and accompanying maps that I'd be happy to share. In fact, I just read the front of the adventure where the author says it's OK to share as long as I don't charge. Unfortunately, the zip file is 37 megs, too big for an email attachment.

Ah Hah! Googling the file name gets me this link to download it:

Thanks so much! I'll check it out.

Very looking forward to checking it out! thank you for the info and the link!

Skimming the adventure, it looks really fun, but I noticed that the author suggests that having a priest or wizard in the party is essential, and unless my last player randomly generates one before tonight's game, my group won't have one.

Fix his random draw and deal from the bottom. Should go something like this:

"Let's see, Commoner...oh that's a shame, that's a rubbish class...what else? Wizard's Apprentice. Initiate. Oh, you've done well there, those are excellent careers - the casting rules are really powerful."

nb - sadly, my group would pick Commoner based on the fact that it is far from rubbish and has a wide variety of character creation possibilities.

This is just - amazing! I don't know how I ever missed this - a awesome story in line with the humor of 1st ed and just - stunningly produced! Off to Kinko's on the way home!

Thanks for the link, looking foward to this very much.

I also had missed this material. Does anyone know if Mathias has done other publications besides this and "Mice and Men"? I would really like to see anything else. My compliments on everything: maps, story, detail, design, etc.

Ok - got this printed and bound and have read through it - it is certainly going to be my second adventure! I've started working the conversions - not too tricky at the start but two things upon the read through may cause some stumble:

Werewolves/lycanthropy - when in wolf form a modified version of the giant wolf could work - but not sure about the disease.

The witches/spells - considering just reviewing through other currently available spells/actions/monster abilities and going from there to cover the basics I suppose.

Truly an awesome adventure with a lot of the old school dark humor - this man should have been hired!!

Read through a big chunk of it last night, and will start converting over NPCs and spells and the like this weekend. Very nice!

I will say the maps are all cribbed from elsewhere, and were very familiar, but he (they?) did a great job in using them here.

I'm glad I was able to find the link. It's certainly one of the best laid out and presented of the fan adventures out there, and I like the dark but slightly humorous fairy tale feel. Looks like it wil be a lot of fun.

If any of you do end up writing up a a formal 3E conversion document, I'd love to see it. I'm leaning towards using this as my second adventure, having Lord Aschaffenberg from Eye recommend the group to his distant cousin Countess von Saponatheim as dependable and discreet. I'll probably throw in Three Feathers as a side trek on the way to Castle Grauenberg.

Luckily, the last player came over early to make up his character before our session last night, and he and I just decided to let him pick a magic using starting career. He ended up playing a priestess of Shalya, which should make the other players happy (lots of healing, which, knowing my group, they are going to need).

stunningly beautiful...moody, witty and grim, in the best spirit of the more darker tales from the Grimm brothers.

this is truly a treat for any warhammer fan.

I`m definitely going to run "The Tale of Rose Red and Snow White" as my second modul babeo.gif

Started conversion work this afternoon - Both 'Brother's' all set - and working on a 3e version of the lyconthropy. This module has me almost more jazzed than the core set did! lol

Excellent! I can't wait to see what folks come up with in terms of the 3E conversion. I'll probably run this for my group next, which means sometime in early February. We started Eye last night, but after finishing up a few character details and going over the rules, we only got through the first fight.

I seem to remember he was in a process to edit all art and maps away and replace them with free-to-use material. As I recall the art was the reason he didn't keep this scenario on web too long and it's quite sad if he didn't finish it after all. Great work altogether! Very warhammerish.
