Dreamlands: Revealed Gates

By jeremyj621, in General Discussion

I'm unclear as to whether or not gates revealed in the gate stack are returned face up or face down to the stack in their original position. I'm assuming face down, but the rules don't specify.

From The Dreamland Rules:
A revealed Gate remains revealed in the Gate stack ” - page 5, "Dream Portals" heading in the "Side Board Rules" section
After a Gate in the Gate stack has been revealed, it remains revealed until it is removed from the Gate stack or the Gate stack is randomized. ” - page 6, "Gates" heading in the "Additional Rules" section
After a Gate in the Gate stack has been revealed, it remains revealed until it is removed from the Gate stack or the Gate stack is randomized. ” - page 7, " What happens to Gates in the Gate stack after they are revealed?" question in the "Frequently Asked Questions" section

Yes, but does revealing a gate mean it is placed back into the stack face up or face down? If multiple gates are revealed, are they placed back in their original position, or is the revealed stack returned to the top of the gate stack (again, face up or face down)? The rules don't specify or make this clear.

Since it remains revealed it goes back faceup. Since no effect instructed you otherwise, you put it back into the original position.

Example Effect: Reveal top 2 gates.

Step 1: You reveal the first Gate (Tokyo)

Step 2: You put it aside

Step 3: You reveal the second Gate (Sydney)

Step 4: You put the Sydney Gate on top of the Gate stack

Step 5: You put the Tokyo Gate on top of the Gate stack

OK, now I understand. Thank you! :)

I would even say they never left their original positions. I'm perfectly able to reveal/flip a gate without removing it from the stack.

The core is:
You're told to reveal some gates. You may do this by flipping them. But you could also just peak on the front and attach a post-it note to the back of the gate if you dislike flipping. Or you could note which gate is where on a sheet of paper. Or just remember it.
The game never tells you to flip the gate. You're free to choose any action that will make information about the gate publicly available. So you can put the games back face down if you like. You only need to make sure that the information about them remains revealed.
Flipping gates face up and keeping them face up seems to be the most convenient way to achieve the above, but the rules don't regulate this, just as they don't regulate where exactly you have to keep your Conditions in relation to your investigator sheet, or the exact technique of rolling the dice.

And the game doesn't tell you to move the gate elsewhere as part of revealing. So you don't. It remains where it was.

Oh right, I just wrote the method as I do it, it's not universal at all :) Sorry if this was written as an Imperative to do as our group does it.
