Epic Questions

By Hamdamcwa, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi,

Can't find it in the rules, so just wanted to check:

1) With a 2 card ship, are you allowed a modification on each card?

2) Ordinance Tubes - do you still have to acquire target locks to fire the missiles?

3) Can you use your target locks from one section of the ship for another (e.g. Fore takes a lock, rear uses it)?

4) Same for crew - say you had Finn on the aft section, could you use him for the fore sections primary shooting?

Hope you can help!

Cheers

Hi,

Can't find it in the rules, so just wanted to check:

1) With a 2 card ship, are you allowed a modification on each card?

One Modification per ship, not per card.

2) Ordinance Tubes - do you still have to acquire target locks to fire the missiles?

Yes. Ordnance Tubes doesn't change the way the equipped secondary weapons operate except for saving them from being discarded.

(There's no i in "ordnance", by the way. The other word means something different.)

This makes a missile-boat build somewhat difficult to pull off, because you have so many more potential attacks than Target Lock actions. Weapons Engineer is a good buy on an ordnance-heavy epic build, as are the ordnance types that require you to have the Target Lock, but not spend it (Homing Missiles, Ion Pulse Missiles).

The Raider's Impetuous title is also good for this, although since you asked about Finn I'm guessing you're a CR-90 guy.

3) Can you use your target locks from one section of the ship for another (e.g. Fore takes a lock, rear uses it)?

So this one actually is in the rules:

When a huge ship acquires a target lock, the blue target lock is placed next to the ship. It is not assigned to either section, and it can be spent by either section.

4) Same for crew - say you had Finn on the aft section, could you use him for the fore sections primary shooting?

Yes, Finn works on the whole ship. Most of the time you can treat Epic ships as being one ship. The only things that must be nailed down to one section or the other are incoming damage and Epic-specific effects that operate on a section rather than a ship (e.g. Reinforce).

Hope you can help!

Cheers

I hope this was helpful. Welcome to Epic!

Thanks!

Another similar question (since you mention weapons engineer...): does Weapons Engineer and Targeting Coordinator combo?

I.e. Can you dish out 2 target locks, because WE says when you acquire a target lock (which TC does), you get two?

Alternatively, can the ship using the TC keep the locks for themself (I guess so, since it doesn't specify "another ship"... A la Kanan et al).

Thanks!

It does combo, sort of. What happens is this:

1. Targeting Coordinator says to acquire a lock.

2. The Huge ship acquires two locks thanks to Weapons Engineer.

3. One of the two locks get assigned to the ship you chose for Targeting Coordinator.

4. The other lock stays on the Huge ship.

You can't pass both locks to the other ship.

Man, I went to all the trouble of digging up the old thread on this question, because I didn't see that EdgeOfDreams had already broken it down.

Hi,

One Modification per ship, not per card.

also note that Huge Ships may only take modifications that specify Huge Ship only - standard modifications are not permitted.

So your choices currently are limited to:

Automated Protocols

Optimised Generators

Ordnance Tubes

Combat Retrofit (GR-75 only)

I notice that your new on here (cue ominous clap of thunder)

If you haven't spent much time on the FFG website and are relying on the rule booklets that came with the Epic ships, you might not be aware that there are some really useful online resources for Epic play as well.

First you've got the FAQ

This isn't exclusive to Epic but does have a few questions that you'll probably end up asking during a game at some point - like does Biggs ability work with Epic ships? (it doesn't - but Howlrunner< Cpt Jonus,- and Roark Garnet do)

it's here.

Then there's a general rule book for Epic ships which I'm pretty sure doesn't come in any of the Epic expansions

https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/2d/47/2d47a35a-6ec7-4d4b-a262-efacde97dfa3/huge_ship_rules.pdf

Lastly there's the Epic Tournament Rules.

It doesn't matter if you don't play competitively, this set of rules is a really useful guide for how you approach setting up a game.

It covers squad building, setting up the play area, deployment rules, and most importantly Energy allocation for Huge Ships.
