Trying hard to remember an old favorite

By EineHund, in WFRP Gamemasters

Hey gang,

When I played 1ed I ran my group though an adventure that took place in a coaching inn on a rainy night - with the inn staff being 'replaced' by mutants I believe. It was short, fun, and we had a blast role playing in it...but for the love of god I can't recall the name or find it in my old stuff to run my new group through.

Any help will totally be appreciated.

Rough Night at the Three Feathers. Originally appeared in White Dwarf back in the day and was reprinted several times. It's in the Restless Dead campaign for sure and I believe it was redone for 2e in the Plundered Vaults book.

I haven't played this adventure, but it's gotten talked up so much here that I think I'm going to snag it. It does appear to be part of Plundered Hearts, which you can download from DriveThruRPG here .

I think you probably want Night of Blood, not Rough Night. It appeared in White Dwarf 87.

I'm with him. Doesn't it also appear in Apocrypha Now 1 or 2?

the quest you are referring to sounds like "Night of Blood" , and it can be found in Apocrypha Now, Publised in 1995 by Hogshead Publishing.

It`s one of my favourite short stories, as i scared the living **** out of my players. Good luck finding it.

If the OP mails me, I might be able to help out.

Thank you all! It is indeed Night of Blood and due to your help - I dug out my old Restless Dead and there it was! Thank you all!

If you all have not run this one before give it a go - it is awesome!

Now...suggestions for the mutants? lol - in the new system that is. Some are easy enough with 1 soak added, etc - but should I otherwise treat them as 'cultists' with basic actions? Hmmm....

I'd make up a special Action for each of them depending on their mutation.

Belly Slam

Mutant

Weapon Skill (Str) vs Target Resilience (To)

Diff: M

Recharge: 6

Effect: You jump with all your weight and try to squash target

Axe: You hit for Str + To damage

Axe Axe: As above but no Armour soak

Boon: All enemies watching take one Stress

Boon Boon: Target is trapped: takes 2 environmental damage dice per round until he is free (Str vs Str check at MM)

Bane Bane: You take one Wound

Sigmar's Comet: +1 Criticial Damage, Target is trapped

Chaos Star Chaos Star: You Burst!

so what is the rough night adventure about?

In summary: The party is traveling down a road in the Empire - a coming storm on the horizon. As it gets closer and breaks they get chased/harrassed by beastmen in the forest and get driven to a coaching in to escape weather and the creatures. Once they are in the inn - you have act II - on this sinister night a cultist and some mutants have 'taken over' withe some of the more 'normal' looking ones trying to pass themselves off as the staff to the unexpected visitors. Mayhem ensues as clues are discovered and the party potentially drugged - all while the cultist attempts to carry out his ritual in the dark of the night.

Classic stumble onto someones else's plan that is already in motion type thing. My love for it is the happy times that were had RP'ing the whole first part when they get to the inn. It was topped off for me by a patrol of Roadwardens stopping by in the morning post storm and the party explaining what REALLY happened and not what it looks like.

That's the "Night of Blood" adventure you are describing (which admittedly is the one you were interested in as OP).

I think the poster might have been asking about Rough Night though..?

There is also an adventure called "Rough Night at the Three Feathers", which also occurs in an Inn, where the PCs are embroiled in all manner of situations and problems as the night progresses.

The adventure has an hour by hour checklist of things that go on once the PCs get there, it includes secret societies, secret lovers, disappearing dead bodies, duels, murder, death by punch-bowl; the lot!

It can be a really fun thing to run but it takes some planning by the GM, as there is a lot going on.

I ran it for my group to spice up a long journey, which is kind of what it is intended for. All the PCs wanted was a quiet nights sleep and then ended up getting into loads of trouble, having to hide numeorus dead bodies in various closets (only some of which they had personally made dead as I recall!), getting into fights, getting thoroughly confused and getting very little sleep.

It's more of a comedic stint that Night of Blood is, both are great.

Rough Night would make a great V3 conversion...

I confirm. The mutants at the inn is the Night of Blood adventure, not RNaTF. I think it's part of the Plundered Vaults V2 book, but I have it in its V1 for, in Restless Dead... if I remember correctly.
