The Investigators of Arkham Horror

By Eldritch Mike, in General Discussion

I can't be the only one really excited about this (link here )

This feels like another expansion to me, something to put meat on the investigators' bones, which should add quite a lot to the related games.

EH is a game that pits the player/s against an Old One, but the poor saps who have to actually go out there and do the fighting (and suffering and dying) are the investigators. Those unlucky few who wait with dread to see if they're called into action and who breath a sigh of relief every time new recruits join the fray to suffer and die in their place. It's their stories that make the game so memorable. It'll be a great addition to have more companion information on all of them.

I'm a bit mixed.
On one hand I was very excited, with getting some more story behind investigators.
On the other hand, it's precisely 52 stories. If FFG is going to release more investigators than this (and they'll have to, if they want to release a next big box) those investigators will not be included.

I would love to see 56 or 60 stories, previewing yet-to-appear investigators.

When was the last time FFG did introduce a new investigator to the Arkham Horror Files?

When was the last time FFG did introduce a new investigator to the Arkham Horror Files?

Few months ago, when second edition of Mansions of Madness was released.

Again, to release another big box for Eldritch horror FFG will have to add four new investigators - if they want to keep the number of investigators added constant among expansions.

I see three possible outcomes of this situation:

1) FFG will add four new investigators, who won't be featured in the Investigators of Arkham Horror.

2) The next big box will only contain 4 investigators instead of 8.*

3) There won't be another big box.

Any of these outcomes will make a bit unsatisfied, to a various degree. That's why I'm mixed about 52 stories contained in Investigators of Arkham Horror.

* Or, for example, 2 investigators in next small box, and 6 in next big box. Either way 4 investigators less than usual.

I think we only have 12 more to go (of the originals), no?

Women: Kate, Gloria, Carolyn, Rita, Amanda

Men: Vincent, Ashcan, William, Daryl, Roland, Bob, Luke.

It's uneven in gender which is interesting, but split between the Dreamlands box (8) and another small expansion (4) that should cover it, no?

Yes. 8 would go to Dreamlands, 4 to next small box, and then we don't have enough for another box.

I am preety convinced that we will see another Big Box themed around Lovecraft country ( Kingsport, Dunwich Innsmouth etc).

Investigator wise they may introduce the new ones from Mans of Mad 2nd ed. Or even they wont include any investigators replacing them with new elements.

This game has lots of potential yet.

I wouldn't mind sticking to these 52 Investigators, tbh. They're iconic at this point (well, except for the MoM four). We could also just have more Ancient Ones per expansions if we run out of Investigators to add (Eldritch Horror is relatively light on Ancient Ones).

On that subject... the biggest surprise to me with EH is that they've never released Ancient One print-on-demand expansions. The design of EH lends perfectly to this, since none of the AO-specific cards mix with existing card decks, completely circumventing the print-stock issue that was present in the 1st ed MoM POD expansions.

They could easily make a small pack with the AO card, research and mystery decks, any special encounter cards, and even a small counter sheet (for any new epic monsters) if needed, slap a $14.99 price tag on it, and sell TONS.

They have to have thought of it by now at FFG, but I was actually planning on mentioning this to Nikki last month at Arkham Nights. I didn't see her there this year, though.
