Can you mix original and Force Awakens?

By 4xholic, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Is it a no-no to mix the two time periods? During casual play, do some do this or not? and what about Tournaments?

Your thoughts would be appreciated - thanks.

You can mix as much as you want. Tournaments or otherwise.

You can even have characters who were dead before TFA characters were born, fly alongside TFA characters.

Biggs flying alongside Jessika Pava (she looks to be in her twenties rather than her late thirties).

Or Ventress alongside some modern Scum pilot (Plutt)? - that's a 50 year gap.

Given two lists equal in all other ways, I'd choose the one that was the most mixed up just on the off chance of annoying someone who was up tight about it.

No it's a dirty practice and you'll go blind and get hair on your palms.

Here's the gist of it.

There are three factions in X-Wing.

Rebels, Imperials and Scum & Villainy.

There are four sub factions.

Rebel Alliance, Resistance, Galactic Empire and First Order. The Rebel Alliance and Resistance are part of the Rebels faction and you can use ships/upgrades from either faction in a Rebels list. The Galactic Empire and First Order are part of the Imperials faction and can use ships/upgrades from either subfaction.

So that's where that hair came from...

A few weeks ago I saw Poe, Wedge and Biggs defeat Biggs, Wedge and Poe.

The very fabric of the space l-time continuum very nearly snapped in front of me.

Thanks for the feedback all

Thats gotta hurt!!

So if i'm already going blind, will I get my vision back :)

Even if you do, don't tell anybody and use it as an excuse for misplays.

"Oh, right. THAT Fel! I didn't see him there, because I once mixed sub-factions. I'm still shaving my palms once a week."

If you do... I will hunt you down... and defenestrate you!

No you go double blind and get daredevil senses!!!

Well, Biggs flying with pretty much anyone not in a wave 1 X-Wing has always been a stretch :D

Ok, I keep seeing "wave ??" in posts - can you please explain what that is?

Well might not be a big thing.

FFG releases new products in 'waves.'

So

wave 0 = the original core set

wave 1 = the xwing, ywing, TIE fighter and TIE advanced

wave 2 = etc...

wave 9 is the ships they just released in stores the past few weeks.

Aces packs were not considered a 'wave' release, nor is the updated TFA core set or epic vessels.

Thanks - thought it might be something simple like that, but I've been wrong before... no wait, I thought I was wrong but I was mistaken.

Happens to the best of us. :)

On a more serious note there's a lot of slang and acronyms used on these boards. If you haven't I'd recommend checking out this post...

Oh... the holy grail - thanks!!!

Mixing eras? What is this, Trek Attack Wing?

As soon as they come out i'll be flying Vong alongside Ancient Sith.

I wouldn't worry about it; even during tournaments. The tech slot is unique to TFA-era ships, and represents the technical progress of the intervening period. You'd be mixing antiques with modern technology; and if you could make it work - good on you.

My favorite word. It's been so long!

.

There are three factions in X-Wing.

Slightly incorrect but for the most part on it.

The three primary factions are Rebels Imperials and Scum.

Rebels have two subfactions; Rebel Alliance and Resistance.

Imperials also have two subfaction: Galactic Empire and 1 st Order

Scum only have 1 subfaction and that is the Scum & Villainy.

So there are 5 subfactions but for all intents and purposes subfactions have no effect on the game. The only thing that matters is the primary factions. I had though of a format where you pick a subfaction and then choose either to ally yourself with the other subfaction in your primary or take on mercenaries from the scum and villainy subfaction. As for scum they will be the only faction to use scum only upgrades. All faction restricted upgrade cards could not be put on ships that are being used as mercenaries.

So can you mix factions, such Scum + Rebel or Scum + Empire?

Nope! That is not allowed.

Nope! That is not allowed.

At least, not in tourneys. Plenty of room to allow it in friendlies though - especially if you're creating a scenario where "Stolen Shuttle" or something similar is a plot point.
