Star Wars: Armada - Vassal module version 4.2.0

By Green Knight, in Star Wars: Armada

DUST FIELDS: I've finally gotten around to checking the size, and it looks like my guesstimate was like 100% correct, so no changes needed.

PELTA/KITTEN ARCS: Also checked those, and they were pretty close to the mark. I might tweak them at some point, but since the diff is so small I'm not going to bother right now (it's a lot of hassle). Basically they are good enough. More than good enough actually - you would not be able to measure as accurately on the table.

Minor bugs:

THE MYSTERIOUS 'MY COMMANDS CHANGED WHEN I MOVED!' BUG

If a player, for some reason, still has the command stack selected, and then proceeds to use the man tool, then selects the ship (still with the command stack selected) and then moves it, the following will happen:

Commands will be changed (and reported).

Why?

Because the movement hotkeys CTRL/ALT+1/2/3/4 corresponds to the hotkeys used to set new commands!

There are very few such overlaps in hotkeys - and only this one has the potential to mess up things.

It is also EXCEEDINGLY rare - I've had one player report it, and have witnessed it once myself the other day - so most wont be aware of it.

It's also easy to fix. Just undo, then unselect the command stack.

ATM I'm not too keen on changing any of the hotkeys. Maybe I'll figure out something clever later. For now, just keep it in mind - if ever it should happen.

OK, I'm having a weird bug with Truthiness' latest Vlog. His ships are invisible.

I do get the following error messages on loadup:

- Extension Id for ArmadaExtension_AltMapSizesPack_-_2.0.0.vmdx (3f4) conflicts with previously loaded extension C:\Users\XXX\Desktop\ArmadaModule_-_3.6.0_ext\ArmadaExtension_AltMapSizesPack_-_1.0.0.vmdx

- This game was saved with extension 'ArmadaExtension_AltMapSizesPack_-_1.0.0 (2)' loaded. You do not have this extension loaded. Place the file into the 'C:\Users\XXX\Desktop\ArmadaModule_-_3.6.0_ext' folder to load it
- This game was saved with extension 'ArmadaExtension_MapPack_-_2.0.0 (3)' loaded. You do not have this extension loaded. Place the file into the 'C:\Users\XXX\Desktop\ArmadaModule_-_3.6.0_ext' folder to load it

thoughts?

More problems utilizing the man tool. You should probably consult a specialist.

The map packs shouldn't have any effect on this.

Try running the vlog directly from desktop - i.e. don't start vassal first, just use the vlog to start the application.

Thank you for your concern, but I have my man tool under control. It's the rest of you I worry about.

Has anyone else checked truthiness' vlog? Could easily have not brought his ships back in

I'm trying to get into Vassal and am installing and having a test run now. Would anyone be prepared to work with me through a first game on Wednesday some time from approximately 1630 GMT?

A bit too early for me. I'll probably be on later in the evening.

What sort of time? I'm flexible, just keen to get started sooner rather than later. Realistically, I suppose it doesn't matter if the game doesn't get finished, as it's a learning exercise as much as it is a game, but obviously it would be better to finish it.

Also, do people generally use voice chat, or just text?

I can see you...hiding in a private room...

A little bit of both, I think.

Voice chat is faster (I prefer Discord), must the text chat is there...and most stuff gets reported there automatically, so once you get the hang of it you don't really need to say much.

Heh! Yep, there's no hiding from you! I'm just trying to get the hang of the very basics: setting up a list etc.
I'll look into Discord, thanks.

The station needs range bands if possible for the Armed Station base defense card.

I'm still planning on being on about 1630 GMT today. I'm just going to open a room and assemble squadron packs whilst I wait.

Noted.

I also need to get those dust field distance bands in place.

Edit: until I get it fixed, use distance 3 instead of medium range when shooting at squads. Measure from the ship instead when firing at a ship.

Yesterday I shot my own Gold Squad.

WHY ARE THERE NOT DIFFERENT COLOUR SCHEMES!

My actual plastic ships are an irn bru colour scheme. It makes life so much easier.

Minor bug:

Fleet Command cards can't be discarded.

Thank's to JJ for that one (I should play Rebels more often).

I found the error.

They don't get deleted, they turn invisible :D

Turns out I forgot to include the Fleet Command back graphics file... fixed in 3.7.0

Hey I know there have been some people recently who were new to vassal and asking for games, I am around all day today and would really love to get a game in, and wouldn't mind in the least bit taking some time to teach vassal to someone unfamiliar with it. Just send me a PM if you are interested.

Yeah, that's exactly what happened. Sorry!
