Give Boba Fangs?

By SDCC, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Protectorates have been designed with going 'all in'. Could they work well with Boba?

Concord Dawn Veteran (26) x 2

Protectorate Starfighter (22), Crack Shot (1), Concord Dawn Protector (1), Autothrusters (2)

Boba Fett (39)
Firespray-31 (39)

This leaves 9 points for whatever you fancy on Boba. You could lose the Cracks or replace with Fearlessness too I guess.

They all want to get into R1.

Any thoughts?

*Puts on Mandalorian armor.*

I'd love to fly this build. Only thing is I'd go for fearlessness.on all of them.

I'd actually completely forgotten about the Mandalorian connection! That makes it even cooler!

Just imagine the three of them bearing down on something.

Would Fearlessness work out of the rear too?

Concord Dawn Veteran (26) x 2
Protectorate Starfighter (22), Fearlessness (1), Concord Dawn Protector (1), Autothrusters (2)
Boba Fett (46)
Firespray-31 (39), Fearlessness (1), Recon Specialist (3), XX-23 S-thread Tracers (1), Inertial Dampeners (1), Munitions Failsafe (1)
98 points to keep your PS3s ahead of UBoats?

Fearlessness should work since it only say in arc.

Isn't there a reason no one flies any interceptors except Soontir? They come out with a worse interceptor and now every one is wanting to fly ps5 knockoff interceptors. Then they ask " this is going to be good right " ?

That seems a bit excessive.

The articles around the Fangs explain how it's different, Slightly more hull, talon rolls and a title/ept combo that fits their fluff perfectly. Of course if you want to fly it like a mid PS Squint you're welcome to.

Maybe this:

Boba (Adaptability [+1], Gunner, Engine Upgrade)

Concord Dawn Veteran (Fearlessness, Concord Dawn Protector title, Autothrusters) x2

100 points

Excessive or not, the fang fighter IS a squint. Don't let the article fool you. Just because they give it a 1 pt EPT and title that give you some benefits at Range 1, doesn't mean it suddenly becomes a terror at range 1.

Having used it, I think fearlessness is a trap option because with only one action, you don't have the modifications to both deal damage AND survive return fire (unless its minimal). Yes the title helps, but its situational and can be circumvented by clever opponents. Besides, with autothrusters, you are actually quite durable at Range 2/3 JUST like an Interceptor (especially against turrets) and so its often better to stay at range until you get the enemy split up or unable to concentrate fire (and therefore your ships have a much better chance of tanking range 1 shots back if need be). So its kind of a catch22----you want to deal good damage early on to make range 1 exchanges safer, but with fearlessness, you don't have the tools to do that.

Having said that, adding Boba to the mix helps a bit, although you may end up sacrificing him just to remove an enemy ship and then it becomes questionable whether your fangs can finish what's left.

Personally, I would set up your ships to have 'teeth' at other ranges too, so your list is not a 'one trick pony' that can be easily dealt with by clever flying by an opponent.

Option A:

Boba w/ VI (or crack shot), tactician, glitter & engine = 48

2 Dawn Vets w/ fearlessness, title + thrusters = 26 x 2

100

Option B:

Boba w/ Fearlessness and either: dengar + slicer tools OR engine upgrade OR tactician + glitter = 44

2 Dawn Vets w/ push the limit, title + thrusters = 28 x 2

100

I would not worry about an initiative bid with this list. Against contracted scouts, you actually don't care much about initiative. If your opponent gets it, you cannot block him, but you can arc-dodge him and control ranges of engagement more easily. If you get it though, you can block him and/or rush range 1 and hope for the best. So either can work well for you.
