I only have the base game of descent 2nd edition. I now wonder how to pick heroes and skills that complement each other as best as possible. In my other thread I have written what heroes and skills I've used.
Thanx in advance :-)

Honestly, with only the base game, you don't have access to the mobile artillery that is "The Apothecary" or the raw power of "The Champion". But, looking at the classes that you have used and heroes, you need to change it up, use the other 3 that you havent. Also, 4 heroes is kinda "Hard". 2 heroes is generally the easiest, and 3 is quite balanced.
What are the advantages of the other heroes over those I used?
Each hero has their strengths, Take Leoric of the Book for example: His hero ability reduces incoming damage, making him useful in this style of play.
Another thing you might want to consider is having maybe two healers, a warrior and a mage. The party doesnt always have to be composed of one from each archetype.
I'd suggest using a Necromancer. The reanimate can "tank" monsters since it's a valid target in "closest hero" activations. We play with Leoric as Necromancer and Reynhart as Champion. But if I only had the base game I might try Syndral as Bezerker for my warrior.
I think my go-to base game party would be;
Syndreal - Knight
Jain - Wildlander
Avric - disciple
Tahla - runemaster
Jain and Syndreal provide insane mobility, Avric keeps you trucking and the Widow smashes stuff to pieces

With only the base game to choose from, This would be my go to team as well, only changing Leoric for the "mage slot".
Yeah I um'd and ar'd over the two mages. Leoric is my personal favourite of the two but in this party he's likely to be left behind by the movers and shakers spending all his actions on blasting crap so I figured his bubble would become less effective. Really it's a moot point as either would do fine. u would definitely not take the necromancer class if I wanted the 'best' party as fun as it is!
