Which character are you going to play first?

By TomPow, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Daisy has a nasty weakness in the Necronomicon, which is going to be taking up some of your free actions to give you 3 free horror.. yay!

Also takes up a hand slot, so FFG was smart in balancing her "free" action with the inevitable Necronomicon pull.

Skids on the other hand seems to have a much easier time not worrying about his treachery as soon as it comes up..

but, i forsee some annoying campaigns were a series of bad events leaves skids with no leveled gear.

still, i've gotta stick it out with Daisy, as she's been my favorite since Arkham, well, her Patrice and Mihn. honestly i can't wait for Mihn to be released with some crazy King in Yellow shenanigans.

I know it's a pretty nasty weakness, but the Necronomicon card is so nicely themed it makes me want to play Daisy more. Such a good idea to make it a dangerously compelling book that drives the reader mad rather than a super powerful artifact that gives you a bonus for some sanity cost.

Doesn't matter who's first, I'll be playing all of them in short order.

It also leaves open the possibility for some cool character-specific interactions with Agenda or Encounter cards. Imagine a card toom or encounter where having the Necronomicon provides you with a benefit (grants two clues immediately) or allows you to parley with an otherwise hostile enemy.

yeah makes Skids seem silly in comparison..

"What's your weakness?"

"This Book. it's maddening. I cannot put it down, and i fear the voices may never cease, they tell me to do things..."

"Sounds nuts.. to be honest with you, i've just got a past due bill.."

Maybe if Skids was injured during the scenario he'd arrive at the hospital battered and couldn't get treatment until he paid up.

Agnes. Reincarnated Hyperborean Sorceress. Every. Time.

BUT, looking at the guys coming in the the Deluxe... I love both Jim and Zooey. I have no experience with LotR or any coop cardgames, but I think it hardly matters. They'll all be great in one way or another.

If the reporter mentioned in dunwich is Rex Murphy, sign me up. Won't be able to play him first, but I'll be taking him through every campaign first that he's around for.

I always liked rex, but I liked him more once I read the FFG arkham horror novels.

Wendy Adams because I spent the money I was going to spend on Signs of Carcosa, plus more, on this game. I owe her one. Plus it has been a long time since we hung out in Innsmouth. Hopefully I won't get her killed as often in this game....

Daisy Walker at first, but I can't wait to see more about Jim Culver and how his ability will work.

If you look at the actual card for his weakness, he's standing over a woman who appears to be in a coma. My guess is either she was attacked, and if he doesn't pay the bill, she won't be healed and he'll never find out what happened. Or he's filled with guilt, preventing him from learning anything from the experience.

His mom or kid sister.

I'm all about Daisy and the Tomes. She also has the best intellect so investigating will be awesome with her. I'm also interested in the Mystic faction but wondering how helpful high willpower will be...

High willpower will keep you sane... I think that's important.

Sanity is overrated.

Definitely Daisy Walker. Seeker seems the most like Lotr Spirit (and by that I refer to the good old first cycle spirit, not the OP lets make spirit beregond **** that FFG pumps out today).

So, which character is everyone going to play first? Roland Banks (Guardian), Wendy Adams (Survivor), Skid's O'Toole (Rogue), Agnes Baker (Seeker), I think it's baker I think I could be wrong about that, or the Mystic class character. I'm thinking I'll go with Roland Banks, I like the idea of shooting my way through the eldritch beings.

Wendy.

Dirty Underwear O'Toole.

As an aside, something has been bugging me with the way the slots are listed for Arcane and Hands.

Can I use a one handed weapon in the one hand slot AND a two handed weapon in the two hand slots at the same time?

Same with the Arcane slot?

OR can I only use a two handed weapon or an Arcane object that takes up the 2 Arcane slot and no longer use the single hand and Arcane slot?

Can I duel wield pistols for example with one in the one hand slot and one in the two hand slot?

Can I have a pistol in the one hand slot and a sledgehammer in the two hand slot, or does the sledge eat both slots up?

I would figure it would be as simple as my character has two hands so they can either have two one handed items or a single two handed item and they could use either two smaller arcane objects or one bigger arcane object, but I am looking for more of an official kind of ruling here before the question inevitably comes up.

You figured correctly. It is as simple as you have two hands, so you have two hand slots. A two-handed item takes up both slots. It's exactly the same for arcane slots. (Note that Daisy's Tote Bag gives her two more slots just for tomes, among other slot-boosting cards).

It will no doubt become quite powerful as new expansions add more Tomes for Daisy to use.

I've played Agnes 3 times:

once in a 2-player demo game (only did first scenario).

once solo fully through all 3 scenarios of a campaign

once in a 2-player game (we have done 1 scenario).

I like Agnes though she is a bit tough to solo with since I only have one base set. I have to be very strategic with my Shriveling spell; though if on 2nd or 3rd campaign I can get lucky and get my spell re-charger before I have to use it much.

I kind of wish I'd played with Daisy now though (on most recent 2-player game), just to try something new. I may even ask if I can swap for her. (other player is Skids so those 2 are my only options at the moment) I was not the leader so I do not expect it will be an issue, other than not being very thematic.

My next solo game I'm going to play a better physical fighter just to try it out - so either Roland or Skids.

Oh, did quite well on the first scenario all 3 times.

On my solo, it did average or slightly below on second scenario and neither won nor lost the final scenario.
