Ever going to see the conversion kit?

By DarkSpade, in Road to Legend

Sorry if this has been brought up before. I did a search but turned up nothing.

I've heard that the app doesn't support the stuff in the first edition conversion kit. Is that true? Do we know if there are plans to support it in the future? No one in my group enjoys playing the overlord so this app may be just what we need to get the game back on the table, but it would really suck to have to leave my complete set of first edition stuff collecting dust.

I don't believe that the conversion kit will be supported. The fact that it is clearly stated in the instructions does not bode well for it ever being supported.

You could still use most of your first edition stuff though. Either through the Wiki or googling around for images you will find all you need stat-wise for the Heroes and Monsters that have already been released and tell the App that you have the appropriate Hero & Monster packs in your collection.

Oh, has some of the old stuff been reintroduced? Haven't really paid attention since my regular group lost interest.

I have been using the conversion kit monsters/cards so far with no issues. Monster stats and actions are listed on the cards anyway. I guess there could be times where the app gives instructions for something that doesn't exist on the card but haven't seen any yet. I just added the associated newer monster packs that match the older cc kit monsters that I have. Seems to work fine outside of a couple of minis that have not be re-released it seems fine. What am I missing here?

Here's a great link (with card images) covering all of the Hero and Monster packs with comparisons to the conversion kit:

Nice, thanks for sharing!

To be honest I don't think the changes are major enough to purchase the 2e packs unless you want the new Sculps. Doesn't appear enough to unbalance the game IMHO.

So they have re-released the old stuff in new expansions, but they don't always match the conversion kits? That kinda sucks, but I guess I can live with it.

Thanks for the help.

I just saw that with the new Mansion of Madness app, they are putting the conversion kit into it so that you can add 1st Ed expansions to your collection. Would be nice if they did that for RtL as well!!!

1ed MOM = descent 2 ed, for this cause:

conversion kit introduced only to increase starting player base, and give players, whom already bought MOM 1 ed some benefits.

same thing were done, when FFG released 2 ed descent.

here are more points of interest:

1) app is just 'driver' for sales of real-world boxes.

2) conversion kit is Out of print, and IMO will never be reprinted, so there is no profit for FFG to add it's content to app

3) app should know which monsters you can use with conversion kit, so you can't just add it as any other expansion => more work to create more menus

4) 1 ed descent printing is discontinued, so no profit for ffg here too

so i'd say that ffg wont ever add conversion kit, because addint it wouldn't be profitable (and if they add it, i'll be happy for fellow players, who can use all collection of descent, they have)

Well, this is nice indeed, but the conversion kit in the second edition core box has created in mind to sell more products - they will release two expansions for the 2ed with exactly all monsters and tiles from the first edition supported by conversion kit. So, more expansions to sell without big development costs.

Voidez points are valid ones. Dont bet in a conversion kit support for RTL and I I will not surprised if they launch a third edition Descent in the same format as MoM second edition.

Oh god... I really hope that doesn't happen anytime soon. I just got into this one and finished tracking down all the expansions :/

I mean, they can release a new edition with retro compatibility , but after seeing the gencon painel, I believe it's not happen to soon because of RTL success.

Oh? There was a gencon panel? Any cool news for the app?

CP stated that the succes of the Road To Legend app had trippled the sales of Descent products.

I don't doubt it for a second. It got me to dive in for everything.
