The things i do for love

By Zharek, in Rules Questions

We have a problem with this card.

I say that you can cancel the things i do for love with THJ of a cost of x=0. My friend thinks you have to pay the cost he paid to cancel this card. We have seen the other posts of this question. But the problem is that my friend dont belive any of the forum users answers. He only belives somone from the ffg admins or creatores of the game. What should i do. Can any of the admins give me an answer i can show to my friend.

Thx for any reply.

Rules reference:

"The letter “X”
Unless specified by a card ability or granted player
choice, the letter X is always equal to 0. For costs
involving the letter X, the value of X is defined by card
ability or player choice, after which the amount paid may
be modified by effects without altering the value of X."

I know but when you say player choice he says that its the value he pays that valid. And no offence but as you are just a member, he will not listen to you. Because he think his understanding is right and yours and mine are wrong.

The gist of it is that, since The Hand's Judgment refers to the printed cost of the event it cancels, it doesn't matter how much was payed for it. You see an X for the printed cost of the event, which The Hand's Judgment doesn't define, so it's 0. Ktom might not be FFG staff, but he knows how the rules work and his answer on that has been validated by FFG. Note that FFG staff never answer rules question in the forums (this one or CardGameDB, which is owned by FFG), they only answer questions sent to them by the email link on this forum. However, the moderators on CardGameDB do check the answers to the rules question with FFG staff.

And item #3 here:

The latter of which is compiled and maintened by one of the people credited in the RRG, so it's as official as it gets until the first FAQ comes out (probably in a week or two actually).

I hope this will be enough. I think this is good answers. Thank you.

until the first FAQ comes out (probably in a week or two actually).

It is more than likely that this question will not be addressed in the FAQ since the RRG entry on "The Letter X" answers the question directly. When FFG has answered the question (as seen in at least 1 of the Hand's Judgment threads on cardgamedb, where emails were posted by people who had sent the question directly to FFG), whey have just referred to that RRG entry and explained that according to it, a "printed cost" of X should be treated as 0.

You can always have your friend send the question into FFG himself using the Customer Service Rules Questions page on this site. There's really no question what answer he will receive, but if that's what he needs, this really is the only way to get it.
