How Often can I Use Heal?

By Svartnatt, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Played my first multiplayer game last night and had a great time. 3 of us managed to take down Ithaqua with the help of some blessings and my tommy gun!

Not sure if we were playing something right, though. My investigator started with the Heal spell. During the final combat, I casted it several times during the fight, but at most only once per full turn of combat. Was I legally able to do this? The Heal card has no hand symbols in the lower corner, so should have been compatible with my tommy gun (2 hands), and the spell refreshes at the beginning of every one of my combat turns, correct?

If so, theoretically I can cast it as many times as I wanted to during the fight (provided I still had the sanity to pay for each casting), and we played it right.

If not, then I guess we cheated and I used the spell too many times to keep us alive long enough to banish Ithaqua!

Sounds legit to me. I recall a time where I used Heal to stay afloat in a final battle (still wound up losing).

All I can think of is that Flesh Ward and Healing Stone are supposed to be discarded when the AO awakens, and that all spells are exhaust-to-cast (some get discarded when successful), even if they don't say so. Look out for spells that don't indicate they should be exhausted.

As long as you have someone with Sanity to spare, since it has a San cost of 1 and managed to keep the spell against Ithaqua's Start of Battle, go for it. Carolyn Fern can probably *****-slap Ithaqua down with her bare hands if she has Heal, since she won't lose Sanity (or will pay the cost, but then use her ability) and her max Fight is 4, leaving her with 1 die per round. And as her Lore is a neat 5 and Heal packs a +1 casting mod, 6 dice should give her 2 success per turn, just the amount Ithaqua deals in damage.

Yep, it's no surprise that Ithaqua is 3rd to last place for "hardest to fight" at 41% investigator losses. If you can get lucky with his start-of-battle wind blast and have some stamina to spare, he shouldn't be much trouble.

Cool, thanks for the quick response guys, good to know we played it right.

Dam, it hadn't even occurred to me to trade the spell to someone else if I started to run low on sanity or if they had a better chance at success. I should have given it to my buddy who was playing the magician since he had a better Lore stat than me. Next time...

Tibs, I fared pretty well when Ithaqua blasted away our items, I only lost my King in Yellow book while our magician lost all of his spells and magic weapons. My tommy gun combined with my blessing was what really put us over the top in the damage area. Without those I don't think we would have made it. The Heal spell helped just a little bit too. happy.gif
