2016 System Open Series Results

That was fun to watch, big thanks to the team for the stream!

Looking at the JM5K list, it was clear that to be in arc of them was to die. I get the hate where the whole spam list comes to play, but it was still cool to see the power of munitions at work.

I'm not sure how I would counter with my current favorite list. Killing one in a single turn sounds like a tall order.

Jumpmasters + Chips are just the perfect storm. I honestly think with Deadeye + the R4 mechs, they would have been viable even without Chips. But with chips? Get out of their arc, or die.

Fleming seems like the exact antithesis of fly casual. I hope brad crushes him. How horrible to play against. Ugh and the rocking side to side makes me seasick. I had to cover that part of my screen in order to not vomit.

Seriously? The "exact antithesis"? What an absurd overreaction. The guy is flying well, knocking off extremely talented players, and is now in the final of a 250+ person tournament. Of course he's going to be giddy and have lots of nervous energy.

Instead, you're the one partaking in anonymous character assassination on the internet. Fly casual indeed.

"fly casual" actually means "yo **** this guy"

Not to take anything away from Ryan but I felt that in the only two games I watched. (the last two) that the rock placement was massively off and basically gifted him the opening rounds to get off his alpha strike at will.

I am sure there was some thought that went in to the placement on both sides but I can't help but feel that gifting the Jumpmasters not only the open approach but also an open center to fly around in is a huge mistake.

But then I was not on the top tables of the event so what do I know...

His maneuvers were beyond tight. I don't think anyone handed him a turn-zero win.

I agree completely, the rock placement was awesome for me.

Guys, sorry if my side to side "dancing" annoyed anyone. It's just something I do to help concentrate and focus my mind. I'm constantly ridiculed at home about it as well. It's actually completely involuntary, it just happens.

Anyone know how many players there were between the two days?

I didn't say he flew badly or had an auto win, I said they gifted him the opening engagement he would have wanted.

In both games there was no disadvantage to him setting up on his far right side and he had a mass of table to fly in to.

If anything I am saying his opponents played against the list poorly but not forcing a harder choice in Turn Zero, not that the list was flown badly.

I can't say what their plans were only that I would not have flown that way against that list, with any list of mine.

I actually kind of enjoyed it. I would try to match your swaying with whatever song I was listening to. :P

Congrats on the win!!

I watched three of Flemming's games and he seemed gracious in all of them. Seems disingenuous to call him on his sportsmanship.

If you wanna talk about sportsmanship, I thought the guy with challenge coins for shield tokens was pushing it, buy that's just me. I wouldn't even call lauding your victories unsportsmanlike, but it's definitely orky.

Lol.

I want to see a Z95 swarm with the ordinance fix.

7 Talas w/ Tracers and Chips, in training at the moment.

EDIT: That Mist Hunter is so darn cool looking, though.

Brad Miller and Dee Yun lists contain an error. They run Yorr rather than the Omicron listed. FYI.

I cant recall the exact number but it was announced by FFG at the beginning of Day 2 that there were just over 250 pilots combined for the two days.

I know there was one gentleman running a z95 swarm + Blount with tracers and chips on blount and a few of the z95s. I played against him in round 1 on Friday. It was a very fun game, and he was a great opponent, i know he mad the cut to Sat, as i wished him luck when i was there that morning before driving home. It was interesting as i haven't seen many swarms flown in the local Indianapolis Meta. Sadly, i am terrible with names and cannot remember his, but he was excellent at flying them. The 2 red dice (+1 @ range 1) with focus and target lock was exceedingly effective, i did manage to take 40 points off of him, though to be honest one was just barely flown off the board )having poor eyesight myself i couldn't be sure, but a friendly TO was nearby and caught it). It was a great informative game for me having no experience against swarms, and he out flew me soundly. 10/10 was a great and enjoyable game with a excellent opponent.

I don't know if this is a mistake but I don't remember seeing a nrdu contracted scout list on the top tables, I was rank 15 going into the third round and was running 2 contracted scouts and 4LOM. If I had won that last match... With only 4lom and a half point scout I think I would of beat Ryan out of his 8th seed. Oh well, next time!

Wait, so Drew Bishop lost at the top table last round and didn't make the cut? What about the guy Nathan decided to call a draw with? Did he make top 8? If so, Drew really should have tried to convince Sozin to call a draw that last round.

Nathan and Brad drew, guaranteeing they both got in.

Dom Cairo was next in line at 9th based on MoV over Brad. But yes if Drew had drew then he would have been in.

I hate the DRAW rule. Hope it gets rescinded. Actually makes me feel like not attempting to compete anymore.

That seems like a very odd thing to not play because. I'd you normally are at the top at big tournaments, then yes, but if you are just starting out, I don't think you need to worry about it. That being said, I personally don't believe the draw system was the right choice.

Funny enough the intentional offer of a draw used to be legal in Magic and now is completely illegal. Absolutely.

Its a bad gift to players who compete often, I think.

I'm glad I the players who took a draw lost, totally messes with the scoring.

Jumpmasters won Hoth, do we panic yet?

Congrats Rinehart! It's the exact same list I won my store champs with minus the 1 Extra Munitions. You definitely need to be at 98pts or less to get a leg up on the mirror match now.

And what about the 5 x advanced prototype list?

Was it in the top16? Worked well or not?

Thank you!

Rinehart is the man. And a terrific sportsman.

And MJ, I dunno who this "David" Yun is, but there was definitely a Dee Yun that Brad Miller punted out of the tourney! ;)
