Custom Heralds
Did you read the novel ? I currently am. It occurs to me that the herald may end up differently... (although I am only half trough and cannot tell for sure right now :-)
a french translation of the Herald one of the thousand can be found on the french wiki:

Quality always maters. You should always assume someone may want to print it and making them ask for a higher quality image each time isn't cool.
I felt the need to post something so I made this rather tongue in cheek herald. Not spectacular but functional and amusing at the same time.
Veet, who's the author of the image you used? It looks like the cthulish version of John Howe's "The Door of Night"
Amusing :') but kind of disappointing, the picture was so cool, I didn't realize it would be a joke (I saw it before reading any of the text).
I'd have to look up who did the image, I found it in the big archive of mythos images that was linked here a couple months ago. If you pan out you see a couple guys running from the shoggoth, it's definately supposed to be the finale scene from At the Mountains of Madness.
@Avi: Don't worry I'm hoping to come up with a real herald for the image at some point, something clever and non-aquatic with shoggoths. Just have to think of it

I'm gonna check it in order to find the archive you're talking about (my shame I completely missed the link). Thx, Veet
And now for something constructive a rough draft.
@Julia: www.sectarios.org/foro/viewtopic.php this is the archive I was talking about in case you haven't found it yet.
Ah :') I've read that story.
You think I captured the feel OK? She digs her talons into one character drains them and moves on to the next, occasionally leaving a hollowed out husk where an ally once was.

Yeah, I guess so (I couldn't think of anything else to do with her, given her story and game mechanics). Perhaps something affecting spell use or spell possession?
Then again, I guess giving investigators a weird wasting illness is probably enough. You might want to make it operate on a 1-2 (otherwise you may not burn through a single investigator over the course of the game). It depends on what you want. If you want one player to die per game, 1-2 would probably be better.

Thank you Veet! I was still searching for them, atcually. So, thank you

As she is written and assuming an average investigator sanity of 5 (not sure it this actually works out to the average though) she would be averaging an investigator around every 7 or 8 turns witch would mean about 2 investigators per game, 3 if you were playing against a long GOO. That is kind of what I was going for there I wanted her to be a threat to more than one investigator over the course of the game.

Oh! How embarrassing! I totally misread your card. I thought she was only reducing max sanity on a roll of one. ::Laughter:: okay, I like it much better now ;'D Kindof like Quachil on meth (plus it can herald with any Ancient One— it would be hilarious to herald it with Quachil). Help! I'm being stalked by a dusty midget, and my wife is really a man!
I'd probably put the first paragraph of text in your card (non-flavor text) under the start of game text (that way the directions of what to do with the Asenath card are together).
Thematically speaking, it might make sense for Asenath to go to the investigator with the lowest Will (first player choosing on a tie). I'm not sure if that'd be as good in terms of game mechanics though. I worry a bit about how quickly she will burn through characters, now that I see how fast you're making her eat brains. Also, you're making it dependent on successes. Perhaps have her reduce max san on a roll of 1-3. That'd mean that even with a 3 sanity investigator, you'd have to gimp around with it for an average of six turns. Heh heh heh...
Oh, also, at the end of the text, you said poses instead of possess. Spell checker issue, I know.
Aaaand, that's it for now.
I do want to avoid her picking on characters based on stats otherwise there are certain characters that she would pick on more than others. I had also considered altering the odds to the 50/50 chance each turn, it would depend on how long an average game lasts, do we have stats on that? If it's less than 20 turns then she should stay where she is, if more then yeah 50/50.
I want to play test a couple things but must wait for the 2 year old to slumber before I get out games with little chewy bits.
very nice herald veet. Simple, elegant and extremely nasty :-)
Funny enough, my first read was the same than Avi (thought that you loose 1 SAN on a 1)... did you curse the card ?
Well in all fairness the card does say that allies turn into gibbering monsters on a 1.
Had a chance to test Asenath Waite. I tested Mordigian in the same game but they effect such different areas that I figured the results aren't interfered with aside from it being a short game (which I will cover in mordigians writeup). So Mandy, by luck of the draw, got engaged to the fair Asenath on turn 1 (let the lesbian jokes commence) she lasted 8 turns which is about what I figured would happen. She was going to exit a gate to seal it when the loss of sanity sent her LiTaS then she got devoured the next turn and Asenath moved on to Skidds who I assume she would have made short work of if the game had not ended on turn 10.
Something interesting I had not considered with the herald as written. Since the sanity loss is dependant on success or failure and not on specific numbers rolled then blessings and curses affect the roll, even better blessings offer a little protection and curses make you easy prey.
There are a number of typographical errors, one section with phrasing that is technically nonsense (although I understand what you intended to say), and there are a couple phrases that sound rather clunky (i.e. R'lyeh Disseminating, instead of the far more familiar and alliterative R'lyeh Rising).
I have a project due in an hour, and I don't particularly like editing (although I like the results of it); however, I don't want to spend an hour or so working onthe wording in your card unless you'll make the changes.
In terms of game mechanics, they're all fine. Although I kind of wished it gave some boost to Cthulhu. It would seem appropriate. But you may want an entirely generic herald, which is fine too. Still... With so much R'lyeh theme...
::Shrug:: no matter ;') I can use it with Janus.
Again, who is Janus?
Apparently you haven't been to my photobucket.
Not to sound mean, but a lot of your stuff have wrong wording. Design-wise, you seem to throw in a lot of stuff that don't really have anything to do with each other. But maybe you like it a bit chaotic, I don't know.
