Custom Heralds

You might want to clarify that "return to the box" is different from discard... which I'm not sure it is. Isn't returning a card to the box also a sort of discard in itself?

But I like the idea. You know what would be really fun? If the discarded ally were still in the game somehow, just... you know, re-animated. It could be placed next to the herald and work like some kind of blight?

Ok, I've ransacked the forum collecting every good 'Nyarly and friends' idea, so I'm certainly not claiming this as 'my idea'. Play testing will commence. It might take a while. gran_risa.gif Anyone that sees anything strange or goes for a test run, please tell me!

Yeah I should probably word that "whenever an investigator discards an ally" otherwise Arkham would be overrun the first turn. Also since I don't think there are 10 cultists in the game I should probably include an effect for when there are no cultists on the sheet to place.

No. Discard doesn't mean return to the box. The special wording isn't necessary. Discard returns to the deck.

@ rovdjuret

I really like The Bloated Woman (although she's pretty tough). One of your image links is broken btw. I presume it's The Black Man.

@ Veet

While I feel your Herbert West decently represents the story, I'm not so sure if it's going to have much impact on the game (at worst it will cause a few turns of delays, but the truth is it won't be so bad if investigators kill them while they're sharing spots with other monsters). I mean, a -4 one toughness monster is still pretty easy. I'm not sure why they aren't also stalkers (weren't the undead following him in the story?) I'd also have the terror level rise by two whenever investigators are devoured or allies discarded. It's not like either is a common occurrence.

Also, the image looks too benign (bright sky blue is too friendly a color). Consider changing the blue hues to green hues (if you don't know how to do this, send me a link to the original source and I'll send you a color modified image).

Heh... And if you gave undead a toughness 2 boost per closed location... *That* would be potentially scary :') (if the terror hit six). ::Shrug:: if you're worried about it being exploitable though, you could give them a toughness 3 boost. That way they'd become *very* nasty even once the terror hit three (and at the same time they wouldn't be tradeable individually). And of course, at six ::shudder:: it'd be like the town were already over-run (although if you give them a terror boost of three, it might be a bad idea also making them stalkers, unless you wanted investigators to be constantly hospitalized. Then again... As I think of it a bit... Provided investigators killed some of the cultists before the terror hit six, it wouldn't be *too* much of a problem. At first :')

I think you don't need to worry about running out of cultists... If investigators allow the town to get filled with cultists they're probably losing anyways, that's penalty enough ;'D

The stalker thing makes sense as does intensifying the toughness gain since the terror level still has to go up by 2 in a normal game to start that. I was thinking of having another event that would raise the terror level but increasing the existing one to 2 might work as well.

As for the picture I absolutely hate it. It's from the old comic book based on the Reanimator story, particularly the ghosts in the picture irk me. It's a placeholder till I find something better. On the other hand can you imagine playing this herald vs Y'Gonolac or Shudde M'ell?

::laughter:: alright, I made a third version of the picture with the ghosts snipped out

Y'Golonac would be painful, but why Shudde? Do you mean Glaaki? Cummulative effect— if an investigator is devoured, terror rises by four ::laughter::

Shudde would be painfull because he closes locations.

Shudde activates on Monster Surges, not terror :')

Thats REALLY weird. On my browser Black Man was showing and Bloated Woman didn't earlier. Now they're all seem to be showing. Seems a bit random. Teach me to stack four Heralds on top of each other... As for the Bloated Woman toughness. Yes, you're probably right. For now, though, I can't decide which ability to lift.

I'll let things be for now, I'm sure more things show up. I found a typo on Bloody Tongue already.

@rovdjuret: I can't see the Black Man either, but I also like the bloated woman as is.

As Shudde closes locations with rubble tokens that would ramp up the toughness of undead creatures since their toughness bonus is dependent on closed locations.

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I *like* The Bloated Woman. I just look at her as a serious challenge, that's all.

Ohhhh, *that's* what you meant ::laughter:: Yeah, that'd be pretty scary too ;'D

OK, I'll repost the Black Man...

Scary too :'( ;'D Okay, a couple questions: does The Black Man still give clues, and do you mean subtract their number of Doom tokens from Evade checks made against him?

My intention is this: You end your movement with the black man. If you make the luck check you get 2 clues and a doom, otherwise you're devoured. Either way, the black man stays. If you survive, you must evade the black man during the next turn (at -2 if it is your first doom token) or end your movement. This mean that you must stay another turn with the Black Man. If you make the luck, you get 2 clues (net total of 4) and a doom token (net total of 2). You then make the sneak at -1. A pretty good deal ;)

A good deal until one of the players screw up and eight doom tokens are added to the doom track ;')

I've replaced the original Herbert West posting with the update, recolored picture and all (thanks for your help with that Avi).

back from the dead... hey it is very nice ! Though, I am not so fan of the picture :-) (it is OK though).

I am not sure about the discarding ally things. Each time the terror level increase, you discard an ally. Each time an ally is discarded, increase the terror level by 2... and discard 2 allies.. etc. Nice loop, isn't it ? ;o)

By the way, you can find the french version of basatan (play tested twice and love it !) on this link:

Hey they all look good. Cannot see the blackman though. The bloated woman ability to induce a second fight against a second GOO is very strong. Zhar, which does have this natural hability is very strong because of it ; though, it combat modificator is low (-3 if I remember correctly).

I like the idea of having stay around the board. It is great !

Nope. Discard does not mean return to the box. Basic (albeit obscure) terminological distinction :')
