A question on docked ships.

By TgLoki, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi everyone, noob here absolutely loving the game.

Being a fan of the Rebels tv show I have pre ordered myself the new Ghost and Phantom and I am looking into how it works as much as possible prior to it arriving.

Now I understand that a docked ship is to be treated like it is not there, all mods upgrades and crew abilities are kept to one side until it departs. However, can a crew member transfer from the ghost to the phantom ready for its departure? I have looked everywhere for an answer but cant seem to find anything.

I suspect the answer is no but personally I think it would be a pretty cool perk.

You may have already seen this thread.

At the time, I said:

It's not impossible that when the Ghost pack finally arrives there'll be language in the rulebook about crew of docked ships having some kind of effect on the game even before their ships are in play.

Just very unlikely.

Well in some places at least, the ghost now has arrived, and although to my knowledge we don't have a full spoiler on the rules insert, nobody's posted anything like a special rule that allows crew to transfer, so I'm upgrading it to "extraordinarily unlikely".

Ok, thank you for the reply. :)

No, the crew remain on the ships that they started the game in. Would be an interesting, if not troublesome mechanic though. But trying to remember who was where? And then you deploy and you be like oh ****, wrong guy on the shuttle! Lol I do wish they had a way to allow the ships to redock though. But again, would just be more complicated mechanics.

Redock wouldn't be that hard really, just something where you bump allows you to redock. If you want to make it 'difficult' have it where if the ship bumps and is entirely containtin within the aux arc then it may redock.

a full spoiler on the rules insert

Since you asked ;)

The Phantom

This expansion includes a special Title card representing the Ghost's custom Attack Shuttle, The Phantom, designed with folding wings that allowed it to dock into the back of the Ghost. This card counts as a Title card but cannot be fielded unless a player fields a VCX-100 and equips it with the Ghost title.

Docked Ships

Some card abilities, such as the "Phantom" Title card, allow players to DOCK ships to a carrier ship such as the VCX-100. Docked ships (and their equipped Upgrade cards) are placed to the side of the play area, and are considered to be inactive for all purposes (they are not assigned dials in the Planning phase, they cannot attack, be attacked, perform actions, be assigned tokens, be target locked, etc.). Ships must be docked pregame, during squad building, and players must pay squad points for these ships as normal.

If the carrier ship flees the battlefield, it and all its docked ships are destroyed. If the carrier ship is destroyed (but has not fled the battlefield), before it is removed from the play area, each docked ship receives 1 facedown Damage card and must immediately DEPLOY. Ships deployed in this fashion cannot attack until the following round.

Deploying the Phantom

After a VCX-100 equipped with the Ghost Title card executes a maneuver, it may deploy a docked Attack Shuttle equipped with the Phantom Title card. To deploy, follow these steps:

  • Choose a maneuver on the Phantom's maneuver dial (this does not count as revealing a dial).
  • Take the maneuver template that matches the chosen maneuver and slide the template between the rear guides on the Ghost.
  • Take the Phantom ship and place it at the opposite end of the template, sliding the rear guides of the ship into the opposite end of the template. This counts as a maneuver. If this maneuver causes the Phantom to overlap an obstacle or another ship, it follows the normal rules for overlapping. If this causes a situation in which the Phantom cannot be placed in the play area, the Phantom is destroyed.
  • If the Phantom has not overlapped an obstacle or another ship and is not stressed, it may perform one action.

Edit: just noticed that this thread was from pre-release, and that most of you probably have it in your hands already.
