Crew aboard a docked Phantom?

By Comradebot, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Pretty sure the answer is "no", but what's the word (if there is word) on the crew aboard the Phantom while it's docked? Are they "usable" before undocking, or just waiting in limbo until it flies free of the mother ship?

Like I said, seems highly unlikely that FFG allows it, but figured it's worth asking.

No. Docked ship is not there for all intents and purposes.

I think the OP meant the Phantom docked on the Ghost from the Rebels show, not the Tie Phantom.

I'll admit that was my first thought too, 'You can't dock the phantom...'

lol,... D'OH! Good point.

Well, if that is the truth, I have a friend who is going to very, very disappointed. He has been frothing at the mouth about the 'combined' abilities of the Ghost/phantom....

Giving docked ships to ability to use their ability would be interesting. Imagine howl as essentially an 18 point upgrade to give anything at range 1 of a huge base that reroll.

That's a can of worms you just don't want to open. :)

Just to be clear...

Any pilot abilities, elite talents, ect... on the Phantom aren't useable while it's docked. However the title card does allow the Ghost to attack in the special arc and get a second attack with it's turret.

I understand that, I think he was hoping for the ability to use the phantom's abilities & crew while docked. Just theorizing, actually.

Just very unlikely.

After reading the heading I think using the term Assault Shuttle is a much better choice than calling it the Phantom because I see Phantom and I can't help but think of the TIE Phantom which can represent multiple ships.

So to give an example:

If I have the Ghost with the Phantom (attack shuttle) docked and the Phantom has "Intelligence Agent" (IA) as crew, I cannot use the IA's ability even though it triggers at the start of the activation phase not on activation of the Phantom or movement buy the Phantom.

Quote from the Ghost rules: "...Docked ships (and their equipped Upgrade cards) are placed to the side of the play area, and are considered to be inactive for all purposes (they are not assigned dials in the Planning phase, they cannot attack, be attacked, perform actions, be assigned tokens, be target locked, etc.). Ships must be docked pregame, during squad building, and players must pay squad points for these ships as normal. ..."

So the only benefit to docking is that you have a reserve ship that can't be touched. However the Ghost/Phantom combo also has 0 point title cards (for each ship) that allows you to fire out the rear arc of the Ghost and get a second attack with a turret (equipped on Ghost), but only while the Phantom is docked.

It's true. All of it.
