Dear FFG, Please Spoil Thermal Detonator

Does that work?

Because the risk is 0 and it's something you're interested in talking about.

No, it's something you are interested in talking about, and proxying before release. But you talk about it anyway and proxying is not in the interest of the distributor. Neither is breaking open inventory that you could also be selling.

So, how would it be in the interest of either supplier or distributor?

How did Sabine use thermal detonators in Rebels? That might give us a clue as to how FFG chose to represent them in X-Wing.

I wish they'd spoil all unspoiled cards in the release article, it sucks having 2-5 cards each wave that never ever get good images and are stuck with somewhat crappy scans.

Whatever do we need "good images" for?

Consistency? VASSAL?

1) Normally she would split a sphere into two halves and either plant them on a surface or throw onto a target (such as the legs of a AT-DP). She then detonate them using a remote trigger button or her keypad on her arm vanbraces.

2) You could also keep both halves together and either roll or throw them but then it was a timer switch that would set them off. The explosion would be much larger.

FFG doesn't care about whether we have good quality images for vassal.

So, for speculation's sake, I like two of the mechanics mentioned; that they stick to the opponent ship and detonate later, and that they're used when bumped. The latter makes the bump mechanic really interesting with Chopper. The former makes the Sabine crew card super interesting if you can choose when to detonate them, or they detonate X turns later (or even in the end phase, rather than immediately, since they're dropped during activation, and may end up being carried toward squadmates).

Either way, if it goes down either of those routes, I'd suddenly be very interested in picking up a VCX after all. No matter what happens with them, I imagine there'd be some synergy with the Sabine crew card.

For when you want to make a quality post about a card and want a quality image alongside it?

Im guessing it is deployed like a bomb, when a ship manuevers over it it doesnt blow up, but gets attached to the ship. The bomber can then spend an action to detonate one within range 1-3. So it pairs well with Sabine, when that ship is in range 1 of another enemy ship you can spend action to blow up the thermal and get the other ship as well.

Please let it either suck, be usefull, but not spamable, or be really good and unique. I don't want more than one Ghost, just like more than one Falcon is stupid.

I think it will be Action drop 1 bomb over lap suffer 1 damage 2 points or suffer 1 crit if no shields 2-3 points or something like that

There is more than one VCX-100.

They can spoil it when it's in my cold, dead hands...

No wait!

I would estimate since they are never used in space combat. Perhaps another way to take out an upgrade card(For Rebels), kinda like boba , but maybe just an modification. We'll know soon enough

If you really want FFG to do your bidding, you have to be the one actually holding the thermal detonator.

I would estimate since they are never used in space combat.

If I recall the tie bombers in Empire Strikes back are dropping thermal detonators in their search for the falcon. Puny little explosions. Granted that's not quite space combat

Nope! Those were proton bombs I think

I always assumed they were seismic charges...

No, Seismics are what Jango drops in EPII. That sweet sweet sound...

The TIE Bombers in ESB are equiped with Proton Bombs, I believe.

Just so everyone knows, I went back and looked at the preview image. There is a bomb token for a thermal detonator there, meaning the effect is almost certainly going to have the normal bomb template drop. Outside of that though, it's anyone's guess. I still do like the idea of a bomb drop on a bump, as unlikely as it is haha.

A quick google yields me:

Captain Needa had dispatched Imperial TIE bombers with TIE fighter escorts, and the pilots soon arrived upon a moon-sized asteroid. There, the double-podded bombers dropped free-falling thermal detonators that exploded and left new craters on the asteroid's ravaged terrain.

-from Star Wars Trilogy: The Empire Strikes Back (junior novelization), though not considered canon

Then, on wookipedia, the tie bomber could carry 4 proton bombs or 64 thermal detonators. I'm pretty sure in ESB they drop more than 4 (even if off camera) judging by their bombing pattern. I realize that source is from a wiki (whose source is from the Rogue Squadron game).

In my eyes, a small thermal detonator would deal less damage than a seismic charge (as seen in ep2). And since the bombers in ESB didn't damage the asteroid, I'm sticking with thermal detonators. I would imagine a proton bomb would shred an asteroid quite severely.

My parents always said "Persistence is the key to success." And even though I'm not normally this impatient, but because I started this thread in a moment of weakness, then I HAVE to commit to the ploy!

Therefore...

Please FFG! I've been a good boy this year! I promisen I'll even splurge and buy 2 Ghosts if you release another preview article that contains Thermal Detonators :) Maybe a Sabine based preview, showing some cool lists with Sabine crew! Ill even write the article!

Thanks,

Phild0

Phild0, shush, there are no cool lists with Sabine crew. I think you meant Sabine on the Attack Shuttle, which is indeed very cool.

Nothing to see here....
