So some time ago FFG toyed with the idea of an X-Wing Hall of Fame. An idea they seem to have abandoned.
With the Super Bowl fast approaching and the next class of NFL Hall of Fame inductees about to be enshrined, I thought it would make for a good debate on players who have earned their place in the fictitious hallowed halls of an X-Wing Hall of Fame.
First Ballot Players -
So there are a few 'gimmes' in this category I'd like to get off the board right away. As they are just too easy and clearly belong among the games true elite. I can not imagine anyone arguing with these four players at all.
****************************************
Doug Kinney - First World Champion and founder of the 'Fly Casual' campaign, and overall amazing person! DUH
Paul Heaver - Three time (Back-to-Back-to-Back, the Heaver-peat), pound for pound, probably the single best player we have ever seen in this game, period. - DUH!
Aaron "Kinetic Operator" Bonar - Worlds cut each of the last 3 years, meta trend setter, amazing pilot and overall fun guy!
Dallas "Texx" Parker - Worlds 2013 runner up, made the cut at Worlds each of the last three years, and a model TIE Swarm player!
****************************************
So with these players off of the board, their busts already enshrined in this Hall of Fame, who would you vote for for the class of 2015?
I have a long list I would add to this, but I really want to hear your thoughts guys!
An X-Wing Hall of Fame - Who would you vote in?
I don't know alot of famous Xwingers. (im coining that term btw). but I like the idea.
Mr. Froggies and Jonathan Gomes--but their busts placed next together with a blurb on their pioneering stress meta creations.

How about my dice, for being the best possible ambassador for the game by providing countless undeserved wins over the years to newbies and experienced players alike ![]()

Definitely on my short list of players to be considered.
I'd also add in Froggies for his work in the Vassal community.
Baseball also inducts broadcasters...so there is always that as well.
I'm for not doing this.
If pushed it wouldnt be for players but for people who greatly influence the community to be more casual and fun.

Vassel guy
Maybe some people who do videos that draw people into the game.

Mu0n was on my short list as well!
I also thought that as a whole, Team Covenant should be considered as well, specfically for their forums, videos, and the community they foster.
Didn't something like this start and then flop about a year and a half/2 years ago?
Also Me. Clearly.

Ricky,
Yeah, but it was my hope to revive the topic. I think when it started the X-Wing player base and history hadn't had time to really get started. We now have 4 Would championships under our belt and a much deeper pool of great players to choose from.
I think a couple of your co-hosts (maybe a few now that I think of it) deserve consideration. Even if one would be a bust of a robot!
First ballot, not ballet! Though I guess X-wing players can be good at ballet, too.
I'm a big basketball fan, so here's how I see it:
most players = D-league and NCAA players
players who attend Worlds = NBA players
players who make the cut = All-stars or playoff appearances
In the NBA HOF the soft requirement is usually (1) multiple championships, (2) 1 championship & multiple top cuts, or (3) perennial top cuts.
If making the cut a few years means you're a 2-3-time All-Star, I wouldn't say that's enough by itself to get you inducted. Now obviously, if you're a perennial All-Star who's come close (e.g. Charles Barkley, Steve Nash) then you could be a first ballot inductee.
Beyond players, I agree that Mu0n, Josh Derksen (HotAC guy), MajorJuggler, and some of the podcast hosts should eventually get in for their contributions to the sport... err I mean space wars.

I like the requirements, I think the four players I picked to be auto include all meet those.
MJ is also on my short list as well.
and my auto-correct spelling error has been fixed. Thanks!
Edited by EvilEd209Being cool and helping futher the progress of the game is nice and all, but the Hall of Fame should be reserved for amazing players, not amazing people. Being part of Team Covenant or even making the Co-Op campaign isn't winning games.
I agree with zerotc's summation.

If i remember correctly it was less a matter of age as it was vitriol. Tread carefully.

Some context for the proposal.

Surely no opinions have changed in the past two years?
I thought it was a silly idea back then, as I do now, but also thought it was rather unfortunate that the project was abandoned after the community reacted so poorly to the idea, especially after a number of people volunteered time and effort over a period of several months.

I disagree entirely. Players who attend worlds just have the time and money to do so. Worlds players aren't drafted, Worlds is like signing up for your local rec league just as much as any other tournament is. It just has better prizes.
Worlds players aren't drafted, but the bye award system incentivizes National players to show up. The same way Regional tournaments bring in a bunch of Store Champions.
You're right that attending Worlds doesn't necessarily mean you're a better player, but there can be association even without causation. If you took the top 30 from Worlds, I'm certain the skill level is well above your average tournament group.
I'm for not doing this.

yeah the team covenant tournament videos got me into the game.
When scrolling on my phone, the name of the poster is always offscreen to the left. Often I'll read a post and think "Hey, this sounds like..." When I check, I'm right about 75% of the time. Based on that, I nominate Ficklegreendice and Paragoombaslayer.
Joe Boss because of his pixel art. Yes I know that isn't an exact reflection of his game-play and I don't care. Joe Boss for his pixel art.
I'd nominate Hobojebus; it would maybe stop him being a grumpy old toad.
But seriously?
The game's great; but a Hall of Fame for moving plastic toy spaceships about? Sorry, but that's one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard.
Cheers

Lol your signature always gets me.
We're just having some pre-weekend fun. Purely hypothetical!

Fun is fun. And whilst I do not disapprove of fun, someone might see this thread and take the idea seriously; and then before we know it. Hobo will be idolised ![]()
