X-Wing Hall of Fame

By Darth_Malus, in X-Wing

AFM is starting a Hall of Fame for X-Wing!

It will be a place to honor the best of the best, the ones who go above and beyond for this game, those who have made a lasting impact on how we play it.

We will also use the Hall of Fame as a tool to promote X-Wing and highlight the aspects that make it a great game.

Each year (beginning in 2014) we will induct players, developers, "behind-the-scene"rs, and all around great people who keep this game moving forward.

But 1st we need a group of people who are willing to put in some time to lay the foundation: a Hall of Fame Committee. We have some basics in place, but we need some fine tuning before we really get on this.

So starting now, we are accepting applications from volunteers who would like to serve on this committee. We are looking for people who are active in the community, know the game well, and can commit a little effort to a long term project. These people will be expected to coordinate with each other, participate in "civil" discussions, and be available (i.e. doesn't disappear for extended periods of time).

Anyone who is interested should send me a pm over on afewmaneuvers.com or email me at [email protected] re:Hall of Fame Committee. Deadline for application is Wednesday November 27th. That's 2 weeks. Thanks in advance for your interest!

Since the games release, our X-wing community has grown by leaps and bounds. You can find ongoing, active conversations about the game going on at TC, AFM, BGG, FFG, Reddit, Facebook, and many other sites, as well as in your FLGS. Ships are flying off the shelves in most stores and distributors are having a hard time keeping them in stock. FFG has proven that THEY don’t even know how much of each wave to produce to keep the masses happy.

Within those masses, some people have gone above and beyond. They have made a lasting impression on the game and our community. Whether they proved their excellence by winning a large championship or by spending their free time on the front lines bringing new players to the game, their efforts have been felt. Some represent more with competitive play. Others are skilled customs painters. Some have created squad builders and other resources that we have grown to love. Most have gotten praise or thanks in one way or another, but I feel that our community should recognize them in a more official capacity.

That is why we are starting the X-wing Hall of Fame. Each year, right after World Championship Weekend, we will come to the community for nominations of people who they feel deserve to be recognized.

But before any of that can happen, we need to create a committee to decide how this should work. That committee will discuss the best way to move forward with this project. If you want to volunteer for the committee, send a message to [email protected] by November 27 and let him know that you are interested. This committee won’t be large, so we really need people who will be active in our discussions.

Once the committee is formed and we decide on exactly how the Hall of Fame should work, we will post the policies on TC, AFM, BGG, FFG, Reddit, and Facebook. Nominations will begin shortly thereafter. The plan is to be able to announce the initial inductees to the Hall of Fame by the end of 2013.

Sounds like a great concept! Will you guys be accepting third-party nominations?

There are a few ideas about how nominations will be accepted. Once the committee decides, we'll make sure the community knows where to go to post their nominations.

Will you be posting their inaugural fleets when they're inducted?

Committee, eh?! Sounds more like a Jedi Council! ;-)
