Online tutorials on flying different squads. And a question

By tonycanevaro, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Any good online resources for learning strategy and techniques for flying ships?

I realize live practive is the best but I dont get an opportunity to play much.

Played this weekend. 3 matches. 1 win and 2 losses.

My current list (used to practice more than anyhting else) is

3 Bwings (2 with advanced sensors, one with FCS)

1 Stress hog

Played a Vader/Palp/Fel list twice. Destroyed it the first match and then got destroyed the send match. Out of those three ships, which should be my priority to take down first?

I have been targeting Palp first and I usually burn it down pretty quickly. Thinking I should maybe focus on another ship so double stresses can happen before they burn up the stress hog. Thoughts? Generally, how do you prioritize your targets?

You should look into Vassal. There is generally 5+ games going most of the time that you can spectate. It's also very easy to get a lot of games in compared to face to face.

Here are some links to very good Youtube commentators on some high level xwing games (most have been played through Vassal):

You can also check out the Scum and Villainy livecasts. They provide some excellent commentating and analysis. Some of their livecasts are available on Youtube here:

Some advice on your squad and matchup:

-I would drop the Advanced Sensors and probably go with FCS...maybe put Tacticians on the Blues. Whatever you are comfortable with.

-With 4+ ships and only front arcs I would spread out the asteroid placement and use small asteroids.

-Start in a corner and move slowly, get the opponent to commit. Use 1 forwards and banks.

-Keep the stresshog in the back and try and delay it as much as possible. You could self bump on the first round to essentially keep him in one spot for a round. The stresshog's role is to set up the kill on aces that would otherwise be very hard to kill if they had their actions.

-Use the stresshog as a deterrent. Soontir or Vader will not want to be in his arc, so you can control their positioning.

-Unless you have a chance to double/triple stress Soontir I would go for Vader first then probably Palp. Don't commit (as in chase around the board) to going after Palp without threatening aces, because they will just pick you apart. If he comes to you then it's a different story.
