Red Squadron reference material

By Red 7, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Hi all,

I find it hard to believe that this question has not been asked and discussed already, but I can't seem to find a thread on it.

I am just starting out with X-Wing, and I would like to build up a red Squadron.

I am a model collector, converter, painter from way back, so despite the awesome quality of the X-Wing ships, it is my curse that I must tweak them! :P

As such, where is a "good place" (aka accurate) to find reference material for Red Squadron X-Wings.

I have seen different resources for wing markings, and then I see reference to individual X-Wings having custom paint jobs within a squadron in one source, and being homogeneous in another.

Can you guys help me out please!

Ideally, I would like to find reference material for the named pilots in the core set so that I can paint the X-Wings accordingly.

Thank you in advance for your support/direction

Wookiepedia is a good place to start!

Red Squadron Yavin, Red Squadron Endor, or Red Squadron TFA?

Thanks everyone,

I have been cruising around Wookiepedia, and I have decided that I would like to focus on the battle of Yavin Red Squadron variant.

Not only does that squad seem to be better represented in the game in regards to named pilots, but it also more fun for me to be reenacting those cool battles from the movies :D

What I continue to struggle with is finding visual reference material for the Red squadron... What wing markings to use, are the X-Wings individualized for each named pilot...?

Have any of you found links/sites that can help with this?

Search for the images of the original props from Star Wars -- you'll see the different wing markings and grey/red/yellow patterns between the various Red Squadron members.

Plus here's a good BGG thread on the topic.

Thank you both for the very helpful posts and direction.

So I just keep finding tonnes of great links now!

I had no idea that the X-Wings of Red Squadron were SO beat up! Once you start really looking at the models you see that they are full of replacement panels and damage.

I have decided to paint Red 5 as my first X-Wing... That's right, as you may have guessed, I don't like to ease into things :P

Here is what I have chosen to use for reference material:

I will post pics soon

Thanks.

Lots of great stuff there!
