Armada World Cup - Vassal Tournament:

By BiggsIRL, in Star Wars: Armada

Biggs are you twitching this one?

Sadly no, I am at work.

Results are in:

Ardaedhel vs clontroper5 ends 141 to 400 my favor

the objective was hyperspace assault and I was first player (of course :P )

this was my most intense game this tournament so well played to Ard.

Yavaris + 2 b-wings were set aside

turn 1 he lead with Adar slinging Dutch across the map to try and kill one of my ties and everyone slowing advancing. I banked nav tokens with everyone and he slowed to speed 1

turn 2 things started to heat up when we closed the gap to about medium range across the board and my raider Xiphos took some nice long range fire leaving it with 1 card. at the end of the turn Demolisher activated making sure Ard knew he was there by dropping 9 Damage on his Af mk 2 (thanks to intel officer Ard didn't brace) I also moved instigator up to engage the majority of his fighters.

turn 3 Yavaris hyperspaces in then demolisher activates first finishing the Assault frigate with a roll of 11 and a ram, after which it used engine techs to set up a shot on his 2nd Mk2 dealing another 6 damage (once again intel officer prevented a brace) now its Ards turn to fight back activating a few b-wings and murdering one of my ties and dealing several points of damage on 2 of my raiders, he also managed to stay just out of close range of Dagger (one of my expanded launcher raiders) but was caught in a double arc from Instigator. I then activated Dagger dealing a crit to the side of yavaris and tried to squeezes out of its front arc but alas was caught by the tiniest of margins which allowed a couple yavaris b-wings and a front arc to end Dagger. now this turn still wasn't over, next I had Instigator who unloaded on Garms remaining mk 2 with a double arc + apts leaving it with 4 cards,0 shields and only an evade remaining allowing my last ship, Xiphos, to finish it with a medium range shot form 2 blue dice.

turn 4 Demolisher ativates and tries to finish Yavaris with a side arc shot and a con fire dial but fails too by 1 damage, this allows a yavaris pumped jan to deal the remaining 2 cards needed to kill Xiphos and run away. but I double activate my flagship and end the game at the start of turn 5 with a long range ram.

GG and thanks for playing Ard I had alot of fun :)

Ugh, that was vicious. Yeah, I went into this one without a great idea of how I could possibly out-juke the Jukemaster, and I had nothing.

My plan was to play it slow with the frigates to give my bombers time to push forward to give the little bastards the stiff-arm. I knew coming in that Demo was going to eat one of my frigates for breakfast in one double activation and there was nothing I could possibly do about it (I still maintain that that title is the most broken card in the game), so my thought was to at least get him to go after the one that didn't have my admiral on it, forcing him to take as many shots as possible to kill it, slowing him down to buy my B-wings time to do their thing. I succeeded in drawing him away from Garm (for all the good it did), but there is simply nothing to be done against those preposterous amounts of damage he was serving up-- after moving . Adar went down to two Demo shots, and Garm followed the next turn.

I did manage to threaten the Raider swarm with my B-wings. That part of the plan worked well, and failed only due to some incompetent pilots who deserved every minute they got of being stranded in deep space. Clon had set up the swarm directly across the board from my first-placement frigate, so I welcomed them in with open arms. As they burned right over top of two hyperspace nodes and into the swarm of B-wings, Yavaris and her escort dropped out of hyperspace out of the deadly front arcs, with double arcs and double-taps on two separate Raiders. Had I not brain farted, mixing up which ship Adar was on and activating one of Yavaris' B-wings with an assault frigate, it might have gone better there, but c'est la vie. As it was, one Raider tanked four B-wing shots and both arcs of Yavaris before finally going down.

In the end, I knew I had to get that activation advantage under control fast by popping a couple of Raiders quickly before they got in range, and I couldn't quite make it happen. Being overbid by one point really hurt me, as I'm confident I could have shut down the approach as Player 1. But Clontroper brought just the right list, bid just the right number, and flew his swarm immaculately, and earned the victory. It was a fantastic game, and a lot of fun--I'm going to keep on working on how to beat those little bastards in that list (other than a counter-swarm ;) ).

One point I'd like to make: in losses, I tend to focus a lot on what I did wrong or poorly rather than on what the other guy did right, and it reflects in my retelling. This is just me trying to figure out how to improve my game and being frustrated at my own mistakes, and I hope no one gets the impression that I don't think Clontroper earned the victory. I've played against some good Raider pilots, but I've never seen such a well-orchestrated swarm of them before. Great game, Clon!

btw the Vlog is in the other thread here

Can't wait to view this, thanks!

Has the last game started?

Yep, it's almost over.

JJs Juggernaut (1st player) vs Quadro28 (2nd Player)

Objective: Precision strike

JJs Juggernaut wins 565-156

This game was closer than the score shows; the objective really gave me a large number of points. A great game to my opponent who pulled some maneuvers I wasn't expecting, throwing off my activation order and keeping himself from getting shot at, as well as force me to maneuver sub-optimally as well to avoid getting shot at myself. Yavaris was my primary target, but due to being out deployed and good maneuvering by Quadro, I was unable to bring Admonition in to strike until turn 4.

While I was moving in with Admonition; I also was blocking his lead Assault Frigate's path, which caused Yavaris to ram. I was then able to flip those cards due to the objective and the Assault Frigate lost all four front shields to a Projector Misalignment. This and the combined firepower of my CR90s and Gallant Haven took down the Assualt Frigate which took several crits and flipped damage cards on its way down. However, before it died it's squadron activation moved in the Scurrgs and Y-wings who severely damaged Jaina's Light who then died to the Assault Frigate volley. This however was the only ship kill for Quadro.

Yavaris's 2 X-wing double taps did 1 damage to one of my X-wings due to Jan and Gallant Haven, and then Admonition was in position for a killer blow on Yavaris. A turn later the remaining fire from my ships took down the other Assault Frigate. The squadron game was a losing fight for me, but Gallant Haven and Jan allowed me to delay the X-wings long enough, and the bomber's were only able to get one good run in before I took out the carriers.

I ended with 11 objective tokens to Quadro's 4, since Admonition and Gallant Haven each racked up 4 in one activation. A good game to Quadro, who was a great sport! We'll have to play again for sure!

Not to sell you and I short, but I see Clon vs JJ as the true finals. I have no idea how to attack Clon's list with my fleet and JJ has my number.

Quarter-Finals Will End at Tuesday, February 16th, at 23:59 GMT . Remember, if you don't get your game in by then, I flip a coin. DO NOT MAKE ME DO THIS.

I will be attempting to twitch stream these, along with commentary. Oh no, I completely agree. I've been looking at both of those and thinking "Man, even if I do manage to pull something out of my ass against truthiness I am totally boned in the finals"

Worse for me than you, as I've only got the two ships.

Watch the website tomorrow at midnight GMT for the Clontroper / JJs matchup preview.

Finishing a bottle of the Bowmore is always a win for me. Here's to the four finalists. May the best fleet win.
