*spoilers* Special Forces TIE/sf is surely coming to X-wing, but how?

By dewbie420, in X-Wing

Maybe like Rebels in Wave 8 where there is a new Falcon and a TIE SF with a crew and turret slot.

But there really wasn't that many ships in Episode 7 for X-wing or Armada. A Star Destroyer, a frigate that looks like a first order ship. the new X-wing and TIE Fighter which had already been released. A shuttle and a troop transport that was used by both sides.

I think if the ship appears in the movies, then there is pretty much no doubt that we will get it. I think we have been pretty clear that the SF TIE is a different ship than the standard.

A couple things to consider... just from the movie (WARNING SPOILERS).

Poe is excited to fly the SF TIE. To me that says the ship could easily cost more than a T-70, in the game. It does look a little beefyer than the standard TIE/fo, and it could definatly have more shields. So it doesn't have to be your standard swam / low hit point TIE.

There were a lot of misiles being shot at the T-70 during their attack on the Star Killer. Since the TIE/fo has no ordnance, it makes sense the TIE SF would.

Finn fires his turret, both forward and backward in the movie. so I think we need to call it a turret upgrade rather than a auxillary arc. You could go all the way to a 360 degree arc, but I would prefer if they went with a turret upgrade.

Having a turret upgrade (or a gunner to fire your turret) is not IMO the same thing as a crew slot. a crew slow feel more like a copilot or some other support position to me. Sure you can put gunner in the slot, but you don't have to.

So I would say it is is has some etra hull and/or shields, a turret slot, and a missile slot (I still see missiles more Impirial, or First Order and Torpedoes more rebel, or resistance.)

Like Dash Rendar's Cannon-Turrets, but this time, with Turret-Aux arcs. Fire the turret out of the primary or secondary arc, but of course- keep the primary weapon value front-facing only.

why would the rebels have a new falcon that's literally the same as the old falcon

which is what that falcon was

If anything thanks to the upgrades it's a worse ship that the OT version, you can add rey as a pilot without selling a separate kit.

First reason, marketing. With the new movie, many people will want ships seen in that movie, and flown by who flies them in the movie. While not a lot packaging wise, the sticker that says seen in the Force Awakens is there.

Considering the number of people who bought multiple copies of the exact same ship, buying a slightly differrent variation isn't a stretch. Now for those that complain that they already have two or three... Well.. That was kind of dumb on your part. Total lack if foresight. As for me? Well, I only buy one of each expansion, so a new model is not so bad for me.

Finally, the movie introduced us to at least one scum pilot, Unkar Plutt - who stole the ship from Ducain, etc. Add in a most wanted style cross faction dials and pilots, along with Rey and Finn (crew) and you have the makings of a decent expansion.

I do remember Poe exclaiming how the tie "really flies", so this ship could have boost, or just a better dial.

I would imagine you would have a tie/SF ship, with a somewhat deference between itself and the tie/FO. It would only have a front firing arc. It's upgrade slot would have: crew, missile, and (some) ept. The expansion would also include a title card, titled Special Forces or something, but it's ability is that you must equip a crew upgrade, and if you do, you may either A: equip a turret upgrade card B: equip a cannon and you can use it in an auxiliary firing arc C: use your primary weapon outside your firing arc.

DO YOU HEAR ME FFG, no PWT. No turrets.

Save that garbage for the millenium dogshed.

No, save it for the TIE Sentinel.

I had an idea. What if the Tie/SF got a turret slot from a title... But the title said you couldn't attack outside your firing arc unless you had taken a barrel roll action? It would give the Empire a swt, but at the same time make it possible to block it's usage/ limit it's action economy due to a mandatory barrel roll

No, save it for the TIE Sentinel.

Or the TIE Agressor.

Or the TIE Agressor.

No, the Aggressor has two lasers mounted in front and two in a turret. That's a fixed 2 standard attack + Turret slot.

The Sentinel has two lasers mounted in a front turret, and another two in a turret in the back. That's a 2 attack PWT + Turret slot. Just like the K-Wing.

We're not getting the Aggressor OR the never-happened Sentinel.

We're getting the smartest thing to market.

I've been convinced that the dial won't be a nerfed FO, but I still think the guns will have 3 fwd and 2 in the aft aux arc.

I'm really thinking that it will have TIE Advanced x1 upgrades options and hull + shields. Though it might also have the tech slot so that it could use Comm Relay.

I'm also thinking that it's going to be one **** expensive ship. But I bet we'll see soon. :)

Although I'm not finding that combination of goodies likely, it would certainly be a fun ship to play.

I've been wondering if, rather than an auxillary arc, they do a special arc. The reason being, that the turret also houses the missiles. As auxillary arcs cannot fire secondary weapons, it would be easier to give it a special arc with rule card that deceeases the aft arc to 2 dice, while the main value is 3.

The cog should definitely be three attack primary.

It is kind of retarded to keep Imperials from having access to a weapon upgrade slot that currently has the biggest meta impact just because of personal gameplay preference. The Imperials need a ship with a turret slot. This isn't a faction/era slot much like illicit, tech, or astromech. Turrets are a universal slot and all factions should have access to it. Sure the imperials already have a PWT and another one won't be necessary but a turret slot for the Imperials is a must.

You're getting all of it eventually.

Give me one good reason we're getting The Sentinel if we get the Aggressor and TIE/SF.

Realistically, because it's a different ship and people will buy it. And because each of them can be handled differently. TIE/sf with aux firing arc. TIE/ag with a Turret slot. TIE Sentinel with PWT+Turret slot.

But on a more whimsical note, because every cheap unshielded TIE needs an expensive shielded counterpart. Advanced to the Fighter. Punisher to the Bomber. Avenger to the Interceptor. etc. The Sentinel is that for the Aggressor.

I don't know if it was just me but, when Poe and Finn were shooting up the hangar on the First Order ship, the solar panels on the TIE they were in and the ones they shot up looked like they were silver and not white like the ones we have in X-Wing. Did anyone else notice this?

The Sentinel isn't even canon. Not even in Legends.

It never happened.

The TIEs of The First Order have VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERY shiny paintjobs.

Neither was the Raider.

Well it is now..! And here's the funny thing, it never existed beforehand.

Y'know, someone once said something about concept art. "They didn't use it for a reason."

Beause The Aggressor is CLEARLY what came out of that art. I don't know how that's hard to see, but turns out, it is.

In fact, there's pretty much no franchise that takes unused concept art and repurposes it into something else more than Star Wars does.

Right, just like the Sentinel. Is this not an apt comparison for some reason?

And the original concept art for the Falcon became the Corellian Corvette. What's your point?

FFG is not going to take unused concept art for ships when there are fully completed and better known versions of those same ships.

I'd actually see the TIE Aggressor having the aux rear arc and the TIE/sf the turret slot. We see the SF turret fire ahead in the movie, while the Aggressor is limited to the rear 200 degrees or so. Personally I left the turret off when I flew the thing in Galaxies, freeing up space for bigger forward guns.
