New WFRP Podcast Goes Live!!!

By Noelyuk, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hey All

I'm pleased to announce that The Order of Chaos Gamers Podcast has just gone live.

You can find it in the itunes store here:

https://itunes.apple.com/hk/podcast/the-order-of-chaos-gamers/id1067964927

The show begins with The Enemy Within Revisited. The classic WFRP 1st edition campaign gets a revisit from our team using 3rd edition rules.

What started out as a personal wish to record our sessions has become a fully fledged podcast and I'm really excited about it and hope you are too.

This hobby of ours is a very fleeting transient thing so it's great to be able to record our weekly antics for prosperity and awesome now to
be able to share our adventures with other Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay fans and RPG fans in general.

And let's face it there's precious little else out there at the moment to satiate your WFRP hunger.

So go and subscribe to stay tuned to The Enemy Within Revisited!

You can find out more about the team at our website here:

Do let me know if any of your group are running any other games, I've played some games with ya'll and you seem like a fun group, but we've had this conversation about time zones before. So let me know if anyone has an opening.

Great. I need this fix. Its been too long.

In episode 2, I think you mentioned that using a card before it had recharged would add black dice. I think you just flat out can't use the card until it's recharged, though, even with a penalty.

Thanks for the feedback nimsim. I may be wrong (it's been known ;) ) but I thought I read somewhere that the black die rule was an optional rule but I could be wrong. All I'll say is that we play our games over Fantasy Grounds which takes care of lots of the rules. And that's the way that FG does it so that's the way we do it. And I honestly like it so won't change.

I know some people don't like the recharge rule (mainly because it's a pain in the ass to track with tokens) and have experimented with removing it. in my opinion though I'd say the reason for recharge mechanic in the game is to stop someone from 'spamming' the same action over and over gain. And I'd say allowing the black die helps achieve that and best of all FG keeps count.

Yep, the official rule is that you cannot use the action before it recharges. As you said, this is to prevent players from spamming the same action over and over. Also, the rule for adding 1 Misfortune per remaining recharge on a card is from the GameMasters Toolkit (it also adds an additional misfortune if the card was last used in a different stance than what the character is currently in. For the start of the campaign, this is a pretty decent houserule to use, as characters will likely have fewer choices of action cards and will be less skilled. However, there will come a point where players become so skilled that they can pretty much nullify all of those extra black dice, and this will be something to consider going forward.

That said, the recharge mechanic kind of ignores the fact that most encounters don't go more than 3 or 4 rounds, thus making the recharge mechanic kind of superfluous most of the time. In the interest of making things interesting, it might be a better idea to go with this houserule. Good gaming to you!

On another note, there are definitely some issues with the audio for folks. Depending on how much time you have for editing and whether each player is using headphones, it might be good to have each player record his own audio so that you can splice in the clearest track possible. This may be more work than you want to put in, but I do think it would improve audio quality quite a bit. Someone else may have more advise on getting the audio in good shape.

I realise that the audio is not perfect. My hope is that it's good enough to be listenable. When I started recording I was recording single track, with a poor microphone, and with no knowledge whatsoever of audio editing and production. Stick with the audio though and you'll find that it improves considerably now that I've got more expensive equipment, a better setup and have taught myself a bit about cleaning up the audio. Having said all of that I do it all myself and there's only so many hours in the day :)

Also being overweight in FG causes blacks on your rolls.

Ah I didn't know the reusing a charging card was an optional rule.

I am enjoying the podcast, I do not mind issues over TS with bad audio it happens. Do you use text mode in FG?

We also use text chat to RP within the party when the GM and another party member are the main characters in an act. So people talking over each other doesn't get annoying.

I am listening to podcast 3. Are these characters on their second career? I say this as I was sure I heard the their was a pit fighter in episode 1.

Seems you are now up to 5 players. Do you play if only one cannot make it?

I beleive it was introduced in the GM's kit. It's kind of an interesting rule. I woule be inclined to either make it more difficult than just the misfortune dice involved and/or apply some stress and fatigue for rushing yourself.

Yeah players use the text chat for incidental stuff all the time but I encourage all roleplaying to be done in voice obviously especially since it's recorded.

Glad you're listening to and enjoying the podcat (don't forget to subscribe and/or post a review ;) ) When we started The Enemy Within there were 2 characters who'd played through Edge of Night, Gustav (the minstrel) and Michael (the ratcatcher). Gustav has since advanced to Dilettante at the start of TEW and the ratcatcher does so later in the campaign. The pitfighter joined in the penultimate session of EON and features in the first episodes of The Enemy Within but then had to leave for work reasons. Ah the GM's curse. Don't you just hate it when real life gets in the way of your gaming.

Unfortunately it's been a feature of the campaign that there's been quite the revolving door of players. Thankfully the core of Davy and Michael have remained but much of the rest of the cast have come and gone. We just try and plough on regardless. Most of the time it's worked but it's always best when we get a settled bunch. We're currently at 4 players and yes we often play if only one player cannot make it. Sometimes even with 2 missing but more than that and the session gets postponed.

When do you play?

Sounds like you have Australians, Americans and yourself.

Makes for a late game session I would think.

Early evenings on Fridays in the U.S. means early morning saturday for me in HK. Works well but it rules out anyone based in and around Europe. We did have one guy who joined and was getting up at 4am to play. Needless to say he didn't last long...lol

I've been listening to your podcast and am really enjoying it. Lots of great role-playing, especially Gustav and Smof. :)

I haven't grabbed FG yet, though Ive seen it, it looks great. I have yet to actually play an RPG on-line, mostly because I've been fortunate enough to have a regular local group. We are currently playing FFGs Star Wars RPG, but are gearing up to start WFRP 3rd when my campaign winds down.

What time on Friday is your session Pacific time in the US? I'd love to join in for a game or two, but with a wife and 3 kids (two of them under 5), game time is hard to get if its before their bed time ;)

I'll be running a game in the next few weeks at about 10:00 GMT, if that's any use to you.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the show Brother Bart. I'm having great fun GMing it and yeah I try to encourage role playing over roll playing. Feel free to leave a comment on the website as well http://theorderofchaosgamers.com (that way the team will be sure to hear your praise :) ) and/or leave us a review on itunes.

As for our time slot. It's pretty fixed at Friday evenings at around 5pm PST start (which is a 9am Saturday start for myself and Michael who are both based in Hong Kong). Time zones have been a nightmare I'll be honest and have posed almost as much of a threat to the campaign as the slowly encroaching forces of chaos. Keep listening though and you'll hear some other great roleplaying cameos, some of whom unfortunately are no longer still with us, mostly because of time scheduling issues, but luckily the core of Smof, Gustav, Falco, and more recently Badigon who listeners have yet to meet, have remained a constant.

I hear you on the kids front though. I have 2 little nippers of my own. Eldest 22 months and youngest just 4 months. Nothing like a screaming kid to break the immersion of a session. :) Anyway we're certainly up for the idea of yourself and fellow listeners joining for some one off cameo sessions assuming you get can get a babysitter :P lol

God loves a trier Aido. And you're certainly 'trying' lol :P

Thanks for the offer, though I'd have to leave work early on Friday as it is to make a 5pm time-slot. And that's assuming my wife doesn't mind me geeking out in the garage for 2+ hours while she cooks and serves dinner while 3 crazy kids are bugging her. 10:00 GMT for me is 2pm (or if you mean 10pm, that's 2am here!). The darned time zones, if only we could remove the need for sleep. :)

We usually try to meet about 6:30/7pm locally on a weeknight, Monday/Tuesday has worked for our group for about a year now. We usually go until about 11pm, so roughly 4 hours give or take. We used to meet every week, but we've found that every other week is working better for us now. My wife suffers me one night of gaming and the occasional weekend convention, which is more than generous considering we don't have extended family around to help out with the kids.

Thanks for the offer Noely, I'll see what I can do to try and join in for a game or two...and I'll be sure to leave you guys a review and post on your site.

Gustav here: I appreciate the tip of the hat but a great group helps facilitate getting into character.Unfortunately, there have been a load of great role players that have come and gone for various reasons and it was fun playing with almost all of them.

I think as a group Paul's been running this campaign for about two years, so that's a bit of time to find a characters voice and personality. I'm really enjoying our current stable as each character has their own feel and the players are comfortable enough to surprise each other once and a while. Lots of laughs.

I was afraid I might have to drop this Christmas as my work would only allow for playing once every two weeks. Paul was kind enough to change the once a week to every other.

Also, Paul has been relentless at keeping this game active in our pocket of the internet. Many thanks, Paul.

Yeah, I meant 10:00 PM GMT. Now you see why I can't find a group to play with!

Hey,

I'd love to take part if there is space? I've got the core and would love to learn how to play the game? I'm UK if that is any good.

Thanks,

Craig.

Hey Craig, yes, there should be space, I still need to iron out a few things with regard to running it, but consider yourself in the hat for playing. I'll get in contact with you soon about playing.

In an attempt to wrestle this thread back from Crazy Aido's hijackery ;)

The Order of Chaos Gamers is a new(ish) WFRP podcast. We are currently running through the classic 1st edition campaign The Enemy Within using 3rd edition rules. If you haven't listened to it yet. What are you waiting for?

I am currently listening to 12. I found 11 to be quite slow. Had to listen to it twice, for I dosed off both times in the park. But usually its quite interesting.

Pity you have only 2 turn up these 2 episodes. Cause it seems you are left with two charmers with no combat experience. Makes for a unique party.
