Arkham Nights

By Jake yet again, in General Discussion

Anyone want to share their experiences from AN this year? Any goodies for EH / AH / ES that someone can scan online.

I went and it was fun!

Played two games of To the Barricades, one of Cycles of Eternity (Barricades version of Eldritch Horror) and one of Under the Pyramids.

To the Barricades was a blast as always. Had one game that was surprisingly long and we eventually won. The second game we lost by too many gates before we had the chance to close any (it happened so fast it was literally impossible to have closed them) but we kept playing and eventually lost again to doom.

Cycles of Eternity was fun but it was basically just a really big game of EH. Best part was the change to action phase, all 16 of us were on a 5 minute time limit and we took our actions at the same time in order to speed things up. It was crazy but worked well. We lost horribly though. No one with a decent weapon wanted to go take out the 18 health Wind-Walker so when he popped we all died a horrible death.

Under the Pyramids was great though! Really great flavor. I love how the sideboard integrates with the main board. I played Rex Murphy and he is kinda crazy. These are paraphrased:

Action: You may gain from the reserve any items whose total value is less than your current influence.
If Rex is ever without a Curse he gains 1 skill improvement, 1 clue and a curse.

He starts with an improvement token and some 'Lucky _____' item which allows him to reroll a test once a turn.
If you can find ways to get rid of your curse consistently then he can actually become quite good at encounters and other worlds. Probably never a capable of monsters killin' though. I spent my time wandering around, solving rumors, gaining items, and handing said items over to other investigators.

I'm off to work. But I can provide more details and pictures later if people are interested. (I didn't take a lot of pictures though, sorry).

Another user had already provided photos of Investigators and Ancient Ones, so you don't have to bother with that.

But if you have pictures of some other contents then I would be grateful. I'm especially interested in the Haunted Condition.

Nice to see you back, Fenyx :)

I read about Rex Murphy on BGG earlier and now I'm REALLY excited to get this expansion. He sounds like a very thematic character to play. (Maybe not in a two-investigator game though).

The others sound great as well. I love variety. I planned on getting it right away, but now I double plan on it. Because YAY!

UGH. I hate curses sooo much. I doubt Rex will hit my table very often. I can't stand only being able to roll 6's. I don't care HOW many dice I get to roll, haha. *eyeroll*

I like the thematic aspect, but he sounds pretty not fun to play. His action is pretty crazy though. Does it include bonuses from items like Personal Assistant?

I would have preferred Wendy Adams... ick.

Sorry, I don't recall the haunted condition coming up. Here is a pic I took of Rex and the items I had. http://i.imgur.com/7snbGKP.jpg only a couple new items I fear. One is the lucky item he starts with. Shortly after this I got the witch doctor. :)

Thanks Julia. Between a new job and being a bit burnt out on EH due to playing that campaign mode I haven't been playing. I *gasp* haven't even played strange tenants yet.

http://i.imgur.com/7snbGKP.jpg if someone else posted investigators then the only other pic I have of import is the massive EH board they used for Cycles of Eternity!

GASP! You never said Rex gets FOURTEEN health/sanity as opposed to the usual 12!

Oh, yeah, he gets fourteen health/sanity. :)

Why not in two player ?

Why not in two player ?

Because 50% of the investigators would be permanently cursed.

Unless you play with more investigators per player, obviously.

This.

When playing two investigators, I find that I need to be ready to jump in do a lot of stuff. Including fighting monsters. I have a feeling that anything requiring several successes would be really hard for Rex to handle. Which is mostly monster fighting. So I imagine with getting items and his starting item, he'd be decent enough at single success tests.

Thanks, I haven't seen anything about the 2 new AO, any pics or spoilers ?

Yup. Which means he is no monster hunter, he is not Other Worlds sealer, he is not fit for Expedition encounters or Mystic Ruins encounters, and so on. So, mostly, he can do Research encounters and normal encounters, and help the party by gaining assets of course.

The real question is: his lovely little item allowing rerolls so that the impact of his Curse is negligible on single roll tests, would you leave the item to Rex, or would you give the item to another character, possibly a Blessed one, to transform the other character in an unstoppable machine (and kill Rex as soon as possible to gather fresh forces)?

You know I wondered about that myself. But given that it requires you to re-roll all dice (including successes), you could be shooting yourself in the foot. I mean it would be extremely helpful if you roll no successes during your combat encounter. But what if you rolled one? Or two? How often would you take the risk to try to get more successes knowing that you may, in fact, do worse than your initial roll. And depending on what you get out of the reserve, you may feel okay with a gate encounter or two. I guess it's a risk you have to take.

But these are the risks when you're continually cursed. I mean improving your stats and getting clues is a pretty big help.

Did anybody get a scan of Cycles of Eternity (the EH version of To the Barricades). Were they any goodies for any other products in the AH line? (AH, ES, MoM and/or CoC CCG)

Jake, the Ubbo-Sathla AO released for ES was in the bag of goodies

I wish I was able to go. I'm a huge fan of ES and have been dying to get a hold of some of the promo AO. :(

They didn't actually have the rules for Cycles of Eternity written down. When I asked they said they are going to make some tweaks and then post a PDF somewhere.
