X-Wing is horrible as a competitive game, and will never be more than a beer-n-pretzel game that some people are taking way too seriously.
The game's rules require precise measurements in millimeters, however bumping ships and rocks with hands and templates, template wiggle room and mis-printed/warped out-of-box official templates are a fact of the game. It requires your opponent to be relaxed, or casual , enough to say, "eh, close enough," adjusting/correcting, and moving on with the game.
Now, I'm not trying to take away from the top competitive players' skill in the slightest. There are some people out there that amaze me with their skill at playing the game. But the moment the game takes itself too seriously is the day game collapses under the weight of fudge that is required to play it.
PS I hope Legion does good, I've been itching for a good 40k replacement. I'm just concerned about it only having two factions.
