Which preview will be out today?

They have real potential to make X-Wing something great but they still treat it like a casual game. I understand that the main demographic is casual players and fans of Star Wars, but I feel like neglecting competitive play is a crux that can harm the overall game.

X-Wing is horrible as a competitive game, and will never be more than a beer-n-pretzel game that some people are taking way too seriously.

The game's rules require precise measurements in millimeters, however bumping ships and rocks with hands and templates, template wiggle room and mis-printed/warped out-of-box official templates are a fact of the game. It requires your opponent to be relaxed, or casual , enough to say, "eh, close enough," adjusting/correcting, and moving on with the game.

Now, I'm not trying to take away from the top competitive players' skill in the slightest. There are some people out there that amaze me with their skill at playing the game. But the moment the game takes itself too seriously is the day game collapses under the weight of fudge that is required to play it.

PS I hope Legion does good, I've been itching for a good 40k replacement. I'm just concerned about it only having two factions.

That's not how it feels from here. We've just been told there are no plans for a Huge ship, the devs only talk about the game from a meta/tourney POV, they aren't interested in a campaign because they don't have the time, and the idea the they might add something "silly" to the game like purrgil is a zero sum.

If they were truly treating it like a casual game, we would see releases that are Star Wars driven (characters, movie tie-ins, narrative play) rather than mechanics driven (shake up the meta, what's at top tables).

^This.

Fine, get 300 of your closest friends together and see who comes out on top, but stop all the ballyhoo that everything needs to be perfectly balanced and cutting-edge 99% effective all the time.

Um pretty sure we get both. So it’s kind of casual?

It's casually competitive. Or competitively casual.

Well, the game is based on the SW IP, so there's that. What I mean is more exemplified by the TIE Aggressor. That ship only exists for the mechanics of a turret platform; the expac features no iconic characters, nor a ship that is all that familiar in the SW lore.

Also the argument of why does the game need a ship if "that role is already filled by another ship." If it's SW and popular/iconic/in a new movie, it should just be in the game. Scum should get a Mining Guild TIE, just because it is in Rebels.

There is still no Ben Kenobi. Why not? What are they saving him for? Just get him in the game because it's Star Wars!

Release Inferno Squadron TIEs, let the Rebels have a single Raider if they use the Corvus title only, etc. A lot of these things are really only ideas that need cardboard, just to make the game more about what's happening in the Star Wars universe than the real need to come up with the next meta whing-ding.

To be fair, Saw's Partisans is a movie/TV show-based theme pack. It even has something new with the moving S-foils. I'm already dreaming up Cinematic Play scenarios for these ships. They added condition cards not too long ago. They introduce new ideas at the speed of a glacier but they do try to mix things up once in a while. I wish they'd be more bold and creative but they probably don't want to rock the boat too much. They're afraid of jumping the shark

The ship exists because it is a Star Wars Galaxies ship, just like the Scyk, Kihraxz, Kimo, and Decimator. FFG didn't make it up just to give the Empire a small turret. It was a Imperial turreted small ship that already existed in what is now Legends.

A moving glacier or a melting glacier? Those are very different speeds these days :(

It was created for SWG as a turret-oriented counterpart to the Y-wing. So, it was actually created solely to be a turret platform - just for SWG instead of XWM. XWM borrowed the idea solely to introduce a small base Imperial turret platform. So, he's not totally wrong.

Are we finally going to get to see the X-Wing/U-Wing fix today?

While I would love that, I think we'll see the announcement for the Solo tie-in first, then we start the second round of preview articles.

Yeah, that's good too.

I just want something X-Wing related.

I'm going to be kinda salty if it's another Destiny or Legion article. I mean, those are decent games and I like playing them, but I feel like I've gotten more than enough news about those games.

If it's an Armada article today I won't feel that bad though. The Armada fans get so few articles anyway, I just kinda feel bad for those folks.

TIE Reaper

TIE Reaper

TIE Reaper

Those are my three wishes.

Is there a specific time they release articles?

Are we sure it should be today?

100% sure it will be " Miniature and game material storage : a how-to for Legion ".

Would love to see more from the wave. I think we need to wait until next week though. Legion should take center stage this week.

Well, the wave DID just move from "In Development" to "At The Printer" so we should get articles soon.

woohoo

Legion looks super fun actually. I think I'd be a little more pumped for it if there were more than two people (counting myself) in my local area who actually preordered and wanted to play it.

Most people in my local area are convinced that the game is going to die immediately because most miniature games have at least six factions and FFG seems weirdly adverse to adding Clone Wars factions. I know that I personally would have preordered a lot more of it if I could've bought a clone army.

So although most potential Legion articles bug me, I'd be happy if today's article is an announcement of more factions for Legion.

To be honest though, I'm expecting a whole bunch of

Gluing your Legion miniatures together: a how-to for new players!

Announcing all-new Legion dice bags!

Oh look, there was actually a Legion card we didn't already spoil!

Discussing the (as yet nonexistent) Legion metagame!

Now I'm tempted to go over to the Legion forum and shout something obscene about all of their articles.

I haven’t gotten to the point where my desire for news has overcome my understanding that FFG needs to market their newer games, but I feel that might not last too much longer, particularly with some of the cards teased this wave and the anticipation of more to be added.

But yeah, when ever I think we got it bad, I remember the Armada news cycle.

I mean, much as I like the optimism, the products are still In Development. We won't see articles about them until they're On the Boat, so probably at least 2 months.

Maybe we get some Solo stuff but I can't see it happening until (or unless) the merch push finally starts. Which given how incredibly low-key Solo has been, I'm not exactly expecting much from.
