Hopefully Legion bellyflops so FFG can allocate more time and resources into X-Wing to recuperate the losses from trying to make Star Wars 40k.

To be honest, I would not want anyone at FFG in particular to suffer if Legion fails. But, if I were in FFG's shoes, I would definitely spend A LOT more time in overhauling X-Wing's rules, values, and approach to organized play.

I mean, we have a miniatures game that is on track to Magic: The Gathering levels of popularity. Why are they not taking the longevity of it more seriously? Why aren't people from FFG commenting on the meta or compiling statistics and analyses like the playerbase does? Why isn't there a registered judge program for TO's or a points system so that high ranking and high profile players get priority to attend Worlds?

It's all silly to me. They have real potential to make X-Wing something great but they still treat it like a casual game. I understand that the main demographic is casual players and fans of Star Wars, but I feel like neglecting competitive play is a crux that can harm the overall game. I'm in no way feeling disenfranchised because I truly love Star Wars and what X-Wing does for me as a tabletop game, but I'll be damned when FFG's too-big-to-fail run comes to an end.

I would not wish the demise of a Star Wars game nor would I believe that bellyflopping would help in the least. If anything, when companies incurs losses, they tend to downsize which means production delays, less playtesting, more power creep to recover losses, etc.

The thing with Legion is that the hard part is done: they built the game, made the rules, playtested it, etc. The game will need to build traction, create a following, etc, and all of these things will take time. Hopefully this means that as this happens, a few more ressources will be redirected to X-Wing.

Now as to why X-Wing is not being updated as quickly as we would like, the thing is that the number of permutations has increased dramatically. Remember when everyone thought that mindlink was useless? It took months before evolving to something good and later rise to something great and then broken. The meta takes longer to stabalize, so I do not begrudge them for not making hasty decisions.

I like my SW action figures at least somewhat articulated and with accessories. I don’t get what Legion has over the playstyle I had when I was 4. At least X-wing and Armada have really nice MicroMachines and can easily recreate epic space battles. Skirmish style battles with foot soldiers can still be done by adapting Little Wars by H.G. Wells.
