Just out of curiousity, did you play warhammer? The thing that bothers me most about Legion isn’t land war, I feel you there IA just doesn’t cut it, but that they took the WH model for a game. FFG has made a great success out of ready to play mini’s that look really good. This build and paint after large introductory costs only appeals to a certain subset of gamers.

It just seems like a total cash grab to me. The mini’s look amazing, when painted by a skilled painter!, otherwise not so much. **** how many wh games have been played with single color dipped troops because A. The player doesn’t have the skill or B they don’t have the time. This is just so far outside FFG’s claim to fame I can’t help but see it as a can do not should do.

Well, by my username and picture, you may have noticed that I am a Warhammer 40k fan although honestly, I haven't played 40k tabletop wargame in many, many editions after I disagreed with some changes they made which rendered a couple hundred dollars of army relatively useless as everyone else in my area stopped playing the edition I liked and moved on to the next. I did continue to play the tabletop RPG, which is how I ended up on FFG's website in the first-place when they came out with Dark Heresy and the like.

I think the miniatures are very well done, and I am a long time painter so its an enjoyable aspect of the hobby for me. I even paint up most of my X-Wing ships even though they come pre-painted. As far as people that half-*** the paint jobs on the minis and are just in for playing the game, its fine. I don't get salty when someone doesn't put as much effort into painting their stuff.

This also isn't a new ballgame to FFG, they have had many other games that required painting mini's before X-Wing came along.

They've had games with unpainted minis but this and runewars are the first ones where the hobby element has been explicit. IA and Descent etc were intended to be played unpainted.

Dust Warfare mini's were supplied unpainted and intended to be painted. BattleLore could also be played unpainted like Descent and IA but folks painted up armies .

Its not a new concept to them.

Edit: I suspect what people did with BattleLore is what pushed them towards using unpainted but better detailed mini's for Runewars.

Everybody in this thread is so optimistic... but seriously, are we actually expecting any news before May 4?

I'm not even expecting news then. I think they've decided new ships are a mistake, and just end up making more stuff that they have to errata. They're just gonna leave everything as it is for the next year or so... maybe they're hoping lack of news will kill the game and we'll all go buy Legion?

I am for the simple fact I don't think that the decision to create new waves is in the hands of the people who have to balance the game.

We still have a missing SKU, and I doubt that's just gonna disappear in the ether if they have already put work into it. I even think May 4th isn't far enough away from the Solo film to announce the movie tie-ins then.

I'd seriously place my bets on the fabled "X-Wing 2.0" over them just abandoning the game.

Now, all that said, I'm not really expecting a new wave announcement and possibly not even the missing SKU until after Legion releases. Legion is an unknown and requires more attention while X-Wing is a proven product in a good place (top of the miniatures heap, last I heard), so can withstand some coasting.

And finally, as I always seem to say when an information drought gets people down, we still have it better than Armada players.

May the 4th is way too late.

Previous tie-ins were unveiled three months in advance, which would make it reasonable to expect the next wave article this month. Legion release is late March, I doubt they will suspend the X-wing hype train for so long, especially if they want to ship something in May.

They have seriously over extended themselves this time. They have a lot of irons in the fire at this point. Something HAS to be neglected. I think the quick genius/ts errata is perfect proof. When have they “fixed” something so fast? Doesn’t happen often for sure and they usually hemhaw around for way too long before begrudgingly trying something.

The fact they nipped it in the bud so quick, says to me at least, they don’t want nor do they have the time to be bothered with xwing. Also I still have solid money that missing sku is a cancelled product and to avoid the not again and mismanagement rage backlash they are sweeping it under the rug until they can do something about it.
