Whisper Crew: Navigator vs. Recon

By polmoneys, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Fond of tactician on Whisper but with TLT and bombs expected on the table I'd like your inputs on these other crew.

Recon helps against double TLT attacks but feels a bit overkill with FCS and the free focus after hit.

Navigator helps adjust range, an increasingly important part of the game imo. Also, avoid blockers and adjust arc to ensure cloacking after shooting.

The list on my mind:

"Whisper"

Veteran Instincts

Fire-Control System

Navigator

Advanced Cloaking Device

Rear Admiral Chiraneau

Push the Limit

Intelligence Agent

Mara Jade

Engine Upgrade

Sir,

The Rebel Captive would like a word with you.

I've ran recon a few times recently, and everytime the stack of focus (foci? focum??) felt like complete overkill. Mind you, that's a good sign - if two or three focus on top of four green die is discouraging those turrets to shoot at you, that's an amazingly well-spent three points :)

I have a feeling Whisper is going to rise again, thanks to the TLTs.

Sensor Jammer + Recon if you are worried about twin laser turrets. They don't really give a **** about rebel captive (especially the scum w/ unhinged)

I like how your "Whisper" is essentially the same as mine. Only way to really make a TIE Phantom worth the points. Personally I am more fond of Tactician than Recon Specialist, and I've tried both. There really is almost never a need for the extra focus with his ability. Never run Navigator myself. Heads-up if you like the Whisper/Veteran Instincts combo though: Torkil Mux can really wreck you with his make somebody a 0 pilot level ability. Without that first shot to recloak, the Phantom can become a sitting duck.

Whisper has his ability-focus. And a second one from his action (or evade). There are better choices as Recon. Go into range 1 when you are worried about TLTs.
