"Pre-assembled" skirmish maps

By ibsh, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Here is a photo of the new maps that I got done. The one on the left was with no brightness and contrast changes. The one on the right is with a brightness of +30 and a contrast of +50. Might need to be increased a little more but that is a real good start. Sorry for the bad photo quality from my phone.

Did you make the changes in a photo editor or is it possible to do via pixelart's website?

Thanks!

You will have to use either photoshop, gimp, or other photo editor. I used photoshop to change the brightness and contrast for the maps. With the brightness set to +30 and contrast set to +50. All the lines are better visually than before. I hope that helps everyone with future printings.

ugh, and I was just considering ordering!!!

I guess I will wait until I hear if they are still having issues or not!

I've never had any problems with pixartprinting. In fact, I requested two maps. One of them, the biggest, (8 maps) was perfect. However, the smallest (2 maps) is what is giving problems. I must say that the are sending me the third try. Yesterday I told them the problem, and the new is supposed to arrive just today with fast shipping. They are very fast, but... Well, I will see today.

I sent them a note to see if I can get the "sale pricing" still as it just ended yesterday. If I can get the sale price I will probably order. If not I will maybe order just the tourney maps otherwise wait.

Also FWIW, I ordered a set of all 32 maps during the recent sale and had no problems.

Just ordered quite a few maps during their two half off sales. They all came out fine including the ones with the adjustments. Hope that you can get things squared away so you can get them printed.

Gran_Orco: pease keep us updated and let us know how things get resolved. If it's somehow still bad on the 3rd try I can work with you to tack down the issue, perhaps some metadata from the problematic file is confusing their printer? Glad their customer support is helping though.

They have contacted with me in just a few hours. Their attendants are revising the result to not happen again. I will receive the maps on September 2.

Got my set today. I had ordered up to the Alliance Smuggler back in Feb (that was all we had then) so I ordered the remaining this go round. They looked okay to me. The wording was certainly not as crisp as the vinyl from Italy, but I can see all the tiles and read everything.

I can't complain for $20.

Thanks for all the hard work in creating the files for us. Much appreciated.

I never heard back from them but I just received an automated notice that a reprint of my order was just sent. I'll keep you up to date. Do they have frequent sales + free shipping like this? I meant to order one map pack and inspect for quality before ordering all of them, still within the sale, but the miss print delayed the plan as much that a second order would now fall out of scope of the sale.

Received today, Sepetember 1. Finally, it is perfect. :D

I just received mine today. They look great. Not awesome, but a definite 8/10. They are well worth the standard price if you can't get the half off anymore.

What have people used to cut them up? I'm concerned about fraying edges on this type of material. Or is that not a problem? Thanks in advance.

I was terribly disappointed with the print quality. Honestly, the resolution, contrast and saturation on the Outdoor Vinyl is nowhere near as good as the first couple of print jobs I got from Italy. I wrote to pixart to tell them so and got no response. Not an encouraging development from what was such an impressive company.

But in any case, you can use any decent pair of kitchen scissors to cut them up.

I wanted them a while back, and I wasn't sure when Pixart would have another sale. So I found another site:

https://www.bannersonthecheap.com/

When they had a sale on for 25% off, I decided to pull the trigger and buy a complete set of maps. Their customer service was -top notch-. They even have a system where you can upload partial images, and they will connect the images together for you. Great for someone like me, with the visual artistic ability roughly on par with a pebble. ; ) So on impulse, I resized the 4-player map so that it was only 24 inches (really, I'm not sure why that wasn't done in the first place), and added a second set of the current tournament maps.

All told, the whole thing came to $5 (Canadian) per map, including shipping.

Now for the (slightly) bad news: one of the banners arrived crumpled a bit, so that one of the maps was visibly crumpled, and another had very minor damage on one corner of it. I took photos and emailed their customer service--and once again, top notch service: they apologized, asked me to identify for them which "banner" was damaged (they weren't familiar enough with IA to pick it out from the photo I sent ; ), and promptly replaced the whole thing, no fuss or hassle. And other than that bit of crumpling, all of the maps were of great quality; I was more than happy with them.

However. The box with the replacement maps then arrived rather severely crumpled, such that I took pictures before I opened it, expecting yet another wrecked set of maps. There wasn't any physical damage to the maps, but the images on this set were -slightly- blurry: only really noticeable on the card text, but definitely noticeable.

I didn't bother asking for yet another replacement for the blurry replacement, but I suspect if I had, they would have been willing to do it for me. And I managed to sell that third set of skirmish maps for my cost to another local player, so I got a bit back from it all.

Summary:

Pros: *GREAT* customer service. Some of the best I've received, and I was in contact with them multiple times over a period of a few weeks. The majority of the maps were of extremely good quality as well. And the maps arrived very quickly--about 1.5 weeks from purchase to arrival (and again, that was from the U.S. to Canada).

Cons: ...But not all of the maps were of good quality, unfortunately, and for two different reasons (crumpled in one case, slightly blurry in the other). In addition, so far BannersOnTheCheap "only" seems to have 25%-off sales, which probably makes them slightly more expensive than Pixart's 50%-off price.

Conclusion: BannersOnTheCheap is a bit use-at-your-own-risk, but it was a thoroughly pleasant experience dealing with them, and if you ignore the very few maps with issues I received, I'm more than happy with the quality of the maps. And I -LOVE!!!- not having to put the jigsaw puzzles together any more for skirmish games.

Once again, thank you -very much- ibsh, for your great work on these maps! --And to nickv2002 for helping string them together for us Photoshop n00bz. ; )

I also received my second printing from pixartprinting which is now fine. Never heard back from them, just received replacements out of the blue.

You can try to telephone them. However, I received fast answers through email.

Yeah I don't see them getting the other vinyl in anytime soon. That is why the +30 brightness and +50 contrast helps.

ibsh, Bespin Tibanna Facility's mini map is missing one Tibanna Gas Reserve (next to the freezer).

Fixed. Sorry for the delay.

Yep, print quality is really subpar to what it used to be. I wrote to pixart about it but only received offer for reprint without quality consideration. It's a shame.

I've updated my map pack with this update. I've also added a small 2 pixel divider between each map to make it easy to see where to cut them apart (something I realized is tricky to do right on my own maps). Finally, I regrouped everything into 4 files with 8 maps each, which makes ordering easier. Here are the download links and sizes:

For all skirmish maps download: 133 MB ZIP Download

  • Print map_group_1.jpg (on pixartprinting.com) at 140.0 inches wide by 24.0 inches tall (355.6 by 60.96 cm)
  • Print map_group_2.jpg (on pixartprinting.com) at 137.0 inches wide by 24.0 inches tall (347.98 by 60.96 cm)
  • Print map_group_3.jpg (on pixartprinting.com) at 140.0 inches wide by 24.0 inches tall (355.6 by 60.96 cm)
  • Print map_group_4.jpg (on pixartprinting.com) at 143.0 inches wide by 24.0 inches tall (363.22 by 60.96 cm)

For just the current tournament maps (newest is Coruscant Landfill): 12.7 MB ZIP Download

  • Print tournament_maps_1.jpg (on pixartprinting.com) at 48.0 inches wide by 24.0 inches tall (121.92 by 60.96 cm)

Got my tournament maps the other day, and i have to say they are AWESOME. Thanks all for helping the forums out with cheap maps!

Unedited layouts are up.

Where are they?

Great work! Really love these but would need a white background in order to print these somewhat economically on my office plotter.

Those seem to be the "edited" ones not the "unedited" scans.

The pixarprinting.eu has a great deal again for cheap banner printing. I ordered a 4 player map and some memoir 44 overlord maps... ;)

Not for us who are not in the states. I would like to print it myself but printing a huge field of black isn't ideal just gets messy. A black border and the rest white would be ideal.
