"Pre-assembled" skirmish maps

By ibsh, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Are you going to update all maps with tile-markings? Then i would wait, until you're done with all maps, before i order new sets.

Can someone please post the exact settings that they used to place the order?

From what I understand so far, all of the maps except for the 4 player skirmish map can be printed using the following settings:

Extreme Classic PVC

Width: 21.79 cm ( 8.579 inch)

Height: 29.92 cm (11.78 inch)

Orientation: Portrait

Then, just upload the map jpg files and order?

That's too small robertpolson. Get the image dimensions in pixels and divide by 300; that gets you the dimensions in inches.

A few pages back you indicated "For the first three, 8 ft 8.579 in x 1 ft 11.78 in. For the last one, 8 ft 4.335 in x 1 ft 11.78 in"

I missed the ft. PixartPrinting requires everything in cm.

I estimate 8.71491667 feet to cm = 265.63 cm for height and1.98166667 feet = 60.40 cm for width

Correct?

I am using a Mac, any idea how to combine the map files that I want to print into a horizontal roll and save it as single PDF file?

When I did it you can put it in in feet and inches and it converts that on the other end. Yes just put the files together into as big of banners that you can fit (my photoshop couldn't go bigger than 100 inches on one file for some reason). Then tell Pixart how big that is and download their template to make sure they're the same size and in the printable area.

This...

Isn't the same as this...

Orientation: Portrait

ibsh's was 8 f eet+ by almost 2 f eet . Yours is barely bigger than a piece of paper...

If you're on a Mac, use Preview to open your final images (you may also be able to use it to combine the images; I didn't but it seems likely it could do it) and then export it as a PDF, but, confusingly, not using the "Export as a PDF" function; that messes with the resolution. Just use the "Export" fn and choose PDF as the output.

On the other hand you may want to put it off a while, as the vast majority of the maps don't have visible tile joins yet and there are some command cards that require them.

So I can export each map as a separate PDF file and then just upload a number of different files to PixartPrinting before placing a final order? If this works than this is great. I played with Preview and learned how to combined images one next to the other but it is a pain to do this for 6-7 maps that I want to print.

Are you currently in the process of updating the maps? If so, I can wait.

Yeah I guess you could upload them one at a time to Pixart. No idea really; it might end up costing more.

I am updating the maps but it'll take a while to get them done. If you let me know which maps you intend to print I could probably take a look at those next.

I would appreciate it if you could look at these maps next. I think these are a good start for a beginner skirmish player:

  • Mos Eisley Outskirts (Imperial Assault Core Game)
  • Massassi Ruins (Darth Vader Villain Pack)
  • Mos Eisley Cantina (Twin Shadows)
  • Kuat Space Station (Royal Guard Champion Villain Pack)
  • Nelvaanian Warzone (Leia Organa Ally Pack)
  • Ord Mantell Junkyard (IG-88 Villain Pack)
  • Training Ground (Stormtroopers Villain Pack)

Has anyone printed out the 4 player map? How well does that turn out (assuming you are printing it with all the rest of the maps)?

They tuned out great! I printed all of them except the latest two. I am still working on the campaign maps to be printed. The quality is really great and cant wait to use them when I go to the casual play events in my area.

After lots of careful Photoshopping I managed to get all the current skirmish maps printable on A2 paper, with all the data from the skirmish sheets and mission cards alongside them.

Incredibly low res versions are here . The versions I'm sending to the printer are 300dpi.

These are just for my family and are in no way competition-ready, as I had to tweak a few of the maps to get them to 16 spaces wide (the maximum that will fit on a sensible sized sheet of paper). I think I managed to do so in a way that doesn't have any appreciable tactical effect on the game; mostly just shaving off extra spaces where a room had an extra doorway, etc.

I'm very pleased with them; I managed to get all of the jigsaw-joins to disappear and the gridline alignment is nearly perfect.

Just dropping here as I thought someone might find them interesting. Also pride I guess :) .

EDIT: You can download the real things at ibrahimshaath.co.uk/imperialassault .

Great job on this

you're doing a great favor to the skirmish community for taking the time to do this.

something that FFG "should" have done for us from the start. hopefully they're smart enough that they'll catch on and start including tournament maps in their tournament kits

the one thing i really can't stand about wanting to play competitive is being forced to buy expansions just to have the stupid map sheet required to even compete

at least with Xwing and Armada you only require a core set and what ever expansions you wish to play with

  • Mos Eisley Outskirts (Imperial Assault Core Game)
  • Massassi Ruins (Darth Vader Villain Pack)
  • Mos Eisley Cantina (Twin Shadows)
  • Kuat Space Station (Royal Guard Champion Villain Pack)
  • Nelvaanian Warzone (Leia Organa Ally Pack)
  • Ord Mantell Junkyard (IG-88 Villain Pack)
  • Training Ground (Stormtroopers Villain Pack)

Those are up to date now robertpolson.

Super! Thank you very much!

Can you please be so kind as to update Moisture Farm as well? I want to print out the core set skirmish maps.

Smuggler's Tricks Command Card

Smuggler: Choose a tile or token you are on or adjacent to. Until the start of the next round, your opponent counts as having 1 fewer figure on or adjacent to that tile or token.

Done.

Thank you for your excellent work ibsh!

I have been able to figure out the measurements. I kept on looking at the measurement of a single map but not when they are combined together into a single roll.

The four maps that I stitched together come down to W: 172.009 cm by H: 60.401 cm or W:67.72 by H:23.78

Since this is a single roll, how did you go about cutting them into individual maps?

Decent pair of scissors did it for me.

ibsh, I noticed that the red deployment zone for your rendering of Nelvaanian War Zone is off a little. The deployment zone goes one square past the difficult terrain and the door moves with it, between those two tiles. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Interesting, will take a look. Cheers. It's surprisingly easy to get tile-blind when you're doing these.

Fixed. Good spot.

Anyway to get a combined file with just the current tournament maps on it?

Ibsh, one thing I might suggest to make these maps able to be printed at more places, is remove the Star Wars Imperial Assault logo from the images. I tried to send this to staples for printing and they rejected it due to the Star Wars name and Imperial Assault logo. Basically any mention of the various trade marks would need to be removed, and the images. I'll try and clean up the maps locally and send them for printing again.

I'll swing by my Staples and see exactly what they had issues with so I can get the maps printed.

Update: Basically anything that can be directly tied to Star Wars needs to be cleaned or scrubed. So the main issue was the Star Wars logo, and the name Leia Organa on Leia's Skirmishmap. I've cleaned these up locally so will try and resubmit this one map later to see if it gets through the review process.

Another thing I was thinking was to make the background white or transparent. Some places charge more for using that much black. Especially if you have to go all the way up to A2.... which leaves a lot of blank space.

It might be an Australia thing but I haven't been able to find anywhere that can print these for a reasonable price.
I don't want to spend $20 per map... that cost starts to build up very quickly (and I honestly don't mind the 5 min it takes to build a map).

I tried the engineering plan printing which was more like $6 but that only allows 15% coverage so even when I removed the black background, the image was still unsuitable.

How much are you yanks paying for this printing?
