"Pre-assembled" skirmish maps

By ibsh, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Yeah, I found that if I joined them all together in Pixelmator and used Preview to export the result to a PDF, with certain parameters, I could get a full resolution PDF. Took some trial and error but nothing to the time it took to do the maps, so...

The maps for the new wave are up. I've also revisited all the previous maps:

  • My custom layouts are gone; since it seems that banner printing is the most common use case, I've gone for a single consistent height of 7134 pixels and let the widths fluctuate as necessary. So all the maps are now the originals from the skirmish sheets, with only cosmetic changes made. For example, there are a few places where FFG had to place a door one square away from the obvious doorway because of tile restrictions; I've fixed those

Hi. I'm not sure if I understood that door situation. Are you saying on some maps you've moved a door one tile away from its original place? What do you mean by tile restrictions?

Looks good. I think I'm going to try coloring the doors and terminals yellow in the minimaps to stand out from the grey tiles, but let's say I went with these files. What do I order from the pixartprinting site? Large format PVC Banners? What do I enter in the Width and Height fields? Cutting method? File verification? And then they send me 4 rolled banners from which I cut out the individual maps myself, right?

Thanks.

Most print on 440gsm and then they give you options for custom sized banners. At the end of the day, its up to you what material - want thicker PVC? You can select it and pay more etc...

For the banners I created, I provided the finished size I wanted as my dimensions, I contacted them before about scaling a smaller source file (1:2 scale), which was 1/2 the canvas size of the end product.

If you're really unsure, then the "art check" that most companies offer gives you more peace of mind.

If you're cutting the banner down yourself, you don't want hems or eyelets, as logically they will be cut and/or will overlap the artwork.

I know you've done so much already, and if this takes any more than a couple minutes I can probably sit down and figure it out sometime, but is there any chance you have just the three current tourney legal maps all put together in one file? Definitely don't want to assume or make more work for you, but thought I'd see before I tried to recreate the wheel/try and find the time to open everything and figure it out - I'm slow with editing programs and always have to reacquaint myself with how to do anything. Thanks again for all of the fantastic resources you've worked hard to produce!

And I hate to ask so many questions, it just seems there's so many options. Do you think there's a way to say "I want to do something similar to so-and-so (Ibsh) did" to pixart and they would be able to take me on from there?

Also, when you cut out each map what did that do to the integrity of the banner material around the edges?

For maps on which the doorway between two floor types was drawn at x, but the map said to place the door at x + 1, I redrew the underlying tiles to put the pictorial doorway in the right spot. I changed the underlying image but not the map layout.

Do you want me to come and move the mouse for you?

Extreme Classic PVC, 15 oz
For the first three, 8 ft 8.579 in x 1 ft 11.78 in. For the last one, 8 ft 4.335 in x 1 ft 11.78 in

Yeah, take a swing at it yourself. It's not complicated but it does take time. You're welcome :)

You could certainly try. My order number was 3448480 if that helps.

Is there anyone in the Bay Area here, and do they want my old map prints? PM if so.

First off, I can't thank Ibsh enough for his high quality and excellent work in putting this resource together.

Second, I can't recommend pixartprinting.com enough! It was easy to order, shipping was included in the cost, and once it shipped it was here in less than three days from Italy!

All in all, I printed of 6 sets of the tournament maps (18 total - the store we're playing at wanted to invest in some!) and then 2 sets of two other maps (4) - so 22 maps for right at $62. I figured about $3 a map. There is NOWHERE in my city that can come even close to that on paper and these are vinyl banners. I found one place that would print on paper at half quality for maybe as low as $5 a piece...

The next time they change the tourney rotation I'll be printing out more maps and filling out my collection completely.

Wow... vinyl for $3 a map... I guess tonight I'll see if people want to put together an order and see about getting some.

Can you post a picture of one of the maps?

So, I don't know how to post picture on here apparently. I tried copying and pasting them in but that didn't work. Any ideas?

maybe you could email me one?- jrepine1 AT msn DOT com

Yeah mine looked just as good. It was simple and all because Ibsh put up really nice source images and Pixart is amazing

Finally got around to printing these out last night. They look great. I had to do a little extra fiddling to get a couple of them to fit on 18x24 paper, but nothing big.

I am seriously looking forward to trying them out tomorrow night.

Thanks a bunch for these.

I can't wait to get mine that I ordered. From the looks of the picture that ibsh posted they will look fantastic!

Getting local people who are interested and putting together an order- really looking forward too getting them.

Hi, sorry to ask a question that may of been asked before, but are these 1:1 scale? The reason I ask is I'm sure when I first came across your work you had section that wasn't quite to scale and about 4 / 5 that were. Are they all now 1:1?

Ignore me. Had a nose around and found them :)

Anyone have a good transport/storage solution for the vinyl maps after they've been cut. I was looking at storage tubes but wasn't sure what size to try and get. I ordered the maps yesterday so they should be here in the next week or so.

I just got mine yesterday. I have to say that they are fantastic! To answer the persons question above. I went to pat catan's and got a art tube for like 8 bucks and rolled them up and put it in there. I have to get a second one to finish putting them away. Here is what I have but it is from hobby lobby. I am going to try to see if they make a slightly larger one to try to get them in just one tube.

I just got an email saying that Pixart is running a special this week for 50% off pvc banners. I already have a set but this would be a pretty amazing deal. I think it's with slower shipping but that wouldn't be bad for the price.

was there a promo code in this email as nothing on the pixartprinting website appears to show this sale.

It's on the website. Just put in a sample banner size and number you want and look at the price at the bottom of the screen. It's cut in half. But only on the slower shipping. Which isn't that slow.
