I'd like to say my thanks to Thorondor for organizing this wonderful event. I'm definitely coming back next year (to raise my position from 2 to 1..?
) The castle with its surroundings was stunning and all the participants were nice, polite people. The only thing that bothered me was that the Poles, Italians, French and some other people all had some problems and couldn't come. I hope and believe to see a lot more people next year!
As for success, I think team Finland did a great job overall. 11 out of possible 16 top 4 rankings is not a bad record and the fact that I even won one of the events (peasant) is also a plus. Winning the main event would have crowned it all, but Graham (the Rip Off) definitely earned his victory with a deck so original, fast, brutal and consistent that everyone else was left with their jaws on the floor. The thread's title promises photos, so here are some: A pretty impressive view from the castle: Marius facing Eero in the draft: The typical t1 by me : Me facing mono Cthulhu: Andrew (aka Nomad) vs. Graham (the RO). Andrew has 4 on each already... and lost the game after an almost 2 hour battle. Some prizes. Yog stone domains are a dream (yeah, the Dexter and Challenge are okay, too)! |

Here's my list. It's not secret like the MU/Hastur...
"Reanimator"
3x MN C2 T-Men
2x ASM F11 Elder Thing
4x EE R159 Hermetic Scholar
3x FC R91 •Ithaqua, The Killing Cold
1x EE R151 •Omar Shakti, Ageless Wizard
4x UT R94 Servant from Out of Time
3x EE C165 A Single Glimpse
2x EE U171 Sinking the Lotus
3x FC R108 The Speaking Cells
4x EE C187 Ghoul Khanum
4x AE C197 Burrowing Beneath
4x UT U121 Shocking Transformation
4x FC R128 Assistant to Dr. West
2x AKD F15 Mentor to Vaughn
2x AKD F16 •Nodens, Potent and Archaic
1x EP M47 The Thing in the Cave
4x EE R234 Temple of Nephren-Ka
Total 50
It's basically an aggro/toolbox deck, using Temple of Nephren-Ka and Assistant with whatever you might need. The typical turn 1 drop is of course the Khanum. T-Men is also very useful (especially against Yig) and the Sinking of Lotus (not sure why it's only 2x...) worked actually pretty well.
The fact that there is no one card you NEED to get is good for consistancy and the toolboxiness makes it a fun deck to play. Fast, consistent, early-game potential, late-game potential, defence against the RO (Servant). I think it's a pretty good deck.
No kidding. The only thing I would have liked that was missing was a trophy or a banner for the winner. Graham didn't get any official proof of his victory.
And to make you all jealous AND come to Stahleck next year, here's what all I got as prizes
:
-Cthulhu Dice (d4, d6, d8, 2x d10, d12 and d20)
-Challenge from Beyond
-Dexter Asylum
-AE Promo Cthulhu
-Yog Stone domains x3
-EE and MoN boosters
-German Spawn of Madness AP
-German Yithian deck
-Glory
In short, a LOT of stuff related to our favourite game!
I visited München after the tournament and really liked the city. Lots to see there, including a great museum of Egyptian art and Deutsches Museum where you can find anything related to technic and science.
