By atuk84, in Android: Netrunner Rules Questions

Conditions:

2) Datasucker with 4 tokens

3) Parasite in heap

Corporation

1) 4 NEXT ICE rezzed

2) Unrezzed NEXT Gold protecting agenda

3) Marcus Batty installed on agenda

Plays made:

1) Runner run on remote server with the agenda

2) Corp rez NEXT Gold

3) Corp rez Marcus Batty

4) Corp trash Marcus Batty

5) Runner loses psi game

6) Corp decide to trash all runner's installed Programs

7) Runner encounter NEXT Gold with all programs trashed

Question:

Is the sequence of play correct?

Runner cannot kill NEXT Gold first using Parasite before Marcus Batty is trashed?

And yes, this is exactly how it works.

EDIT: Forgot that there are 2 subs, not 1.

Thanks for the reply, corrected...

Don't forget the Corp also suffers 5 damage on step 6 as well. So it ends up being 10 damage total.

This is incorrect. Marcus Batty only resolves 1 subroutine on the targeted ice, so no Net Damage.

As in all things, the answer is, "consult the timing chart in the FAQ."

2. The Runner approaches the outermost piece of ice not already approached on the attacked server.

2.1 Paid abilities can be triggered.

2.2 The Runner decides whether to continue the run.

◾...Either the Runner jacks out: go to [6] (cannot jack out if this is the first ice approached this run)

◾...Or the Runner continues the run: go to [2.3]

2.3 Approached ice can be rezzed, Paid abilities can be triggered, Non-ice cards can be rezzed (in any order).

2.4 Players check to see if the approached ice is rezzed.

◾If the approached ice is rezzed, go to [3]. If the approached ice is unrezzed, the Runner passes it: go to [2] if there is another piece of ice protecting the server, go to [4] if there is not another piece of ice protecting the server.

3. The Runner encounters a piece of ice. (“When encountered” conditionals meet their trigger conditions)

3.1 Icebreakers can interact with the encountered ice, Paid abilities can be triggered.

3.2 Resolve all subroutines not broken on the encountered ice.

Pretty much everything you're asking about happens in 2.3.

The runner has priority as the active player going into 2.3, but since the ice isn't rezzed yet, there's really nothing to do. He can't use Parasite because the ice isn't rezzed, and he can't use Datasucker because even if it were, he's not "Encountering" the ice yet. Priority almost always passes immediately to the Corp, who can now rez as many cards as he likes (including ice), use as many paid abilities as he likes, in whatever order he likes. So he rezzes the ice, rezzes Batty, uses Batty, wrecks the runner's rig.

The runner would really like to run screaming at this point but he already committed to continuing back on step 2.2.

So, he hits NEXT Gold with no programs to mitigate it, doesn't bother installing the Parasite in Step 3.1, because Gold will just trash it in step 3.2.

He takes 5 net damage but presumably had a full grip and so lives to tell about it. NEXT Gold doesn't end the run, so he's free to proceed.
