Hey everyone! Just curious as to what you use to store the models? I've got an ultra pro carry case I use for my imperial assault figures that also fits the squads deconstructed in the second bigger boxed tray; but I am curious how or what you use to store the ships with?
Model storage?
I use a Game Plus bag and 2.5 inch foam trays. They hold I got, with room to spare.
2 VSD, 2 Glads, 2 Corvettes, 2 Nebs, 2 AFM II, 2 imp squadron and 1 Rebel Squadron pack, and all the trays and plates. And some plano for the tokens.
The game plus has lots of pockets.
So far I only have enough to stick in the core box, but soon I'll have to find a case for the minatures. My first 40k army (Tau) has priority though.
I found my local hardware store has metal briefcase types filled with punch foam inserts meant for tools. They make great cases for carrying Armada, and they are cheap.
Edited by Wes JansonStorage has been the thing holding me back from diving into this game so far. My core set stuff is nicely in the box. I have a few fighter packs I haven't touched because I have no idea how to store them. Ive looked at battlefoam and the price is holding me back.
I've been able to stuff all of the following into the core box:
1 core set
2 copies of af2
2 copies gsd
2 imp fighters
2 reb fighters
1 wave 1 neb b
1 wave 1 cr90
1 wave 1 vsd
It's a jumbled mess and I had to take out the core set box inserts, but it gets me to and from the store with everything in a single box--without damage (knock on wood) to any of the ships.
Right now the core box works (in a gym bag). Wave two will require an investment in a plano box. Just got to see how big the ISD is.
I love my battlefoam 1520XL. http://us.battlefoam.com/catagories/Battle-Foam-P.A.C.K.-System-Bags/P.A.C.K.-1520XL/
It has wheels, and an extendable handle. Works just like a suitcase, but filled with foam and little-plastic-spaceship goodness. I ordered it after the core set came out. Waited a month or so, then ordered the pre-designed foam for the core set. Then a few months later I made a custom foam for Wave I. So, you are correct, there is a price issue, but I was able to space it out over time.
And, I guess for me, if you're going to spend hundreds of dollars collecting fabulous Star Wars; Armada figs, Wave after Wave, you ought to have a really cool case to put them in. I also picked up some of the nice FFG play mats, and a messenger tube to carry them in. The plan was to velcro the tube to the case, etc. Haven't gotten around to that yet.
Also, I recently decided I had to have the space rocks terrain, because they are freakin' cool. Gonna have to add some more foam to the fridge...
I have grown weary of taking my models apart in between games, so I store everything fully assembled. I'm using a large enough case that I should be able to fit the Imperial SSD in it when it comes out as well. Here's a video I made about it if you are interested.

Sirwilli's boxes https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/175355-sirwillis-workshop-armada-stuff/
In my original box I have all the original ships, plus 2x each of the Imperial & Rebel squadron packs, an extra VSD, an AF2, a GSD, an extra Nebulon B, 2 extra CR90, damage deck and everything else needed to play the game - and I still have room.
all for the cost of some cardstock printer paper and a few hours with scissors and glue

I use this plano model for all I have,which is: 2 cores, 2 whales, 2 glads, 1 extra cr90 and neb B, 2 fighter packs a venator, 4 V19-torrent, 4 V-wing and 4 arc170 (thanks mel)
I filled the top part with foam to store the models, then inside are 4 trays of classic organise it yourself plane cases. Currently only using 3 of them and still have space on the top part for more models.
It will definetly be able to hold wave 2 as long as I only buy 1 of each.
The reason why I want this to hold ALL my stuff is that im the only one with armada in my group so I bring everything to play at once or bring stuff for 2 players when me and a friend go to tournaments.
It really is ideal for my requierements but might not be if you're only looking to bring your faction specific fleets as its big and heavy, makes for great workout tho.
Does anyone use Battlefoam? I'm looking at this for my Armada storage solution and would like to see some examples of layouts if possible. Using Plano cases and other likes it just doesn't feel like a good solution to me given there could be a lot of little pieces with the ships.
I'd recommend Feldherr.net - German company producing foam trays for core set and wave 1 (you can assume they will do wave 2 when it comes out.
Really fit well and cheaper than a lot of the competitors but just as good quality. Highly recommended!
Has anyone bought foam and used a hot knife and cut it themselves? anyone have a source for 4" or more pluckable foam?
I've made use of two Stanley STST14027's to store: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00O7R6RS6/ref=yo_ii_img
- 3 VSDs
- 2 GSDs
- 2 AFMK IIs
- 3 Neb Bs
- 3 CR90s
- 2 core sets worth of xwings and TIEs
- 2 sets of squadron packs for both sides
- Everything else from two core sets aside from the manuals
There's still a decent bit of space in one of the boxes, but the best selling point to me is the the fact that the containers attach to one another. I can easily pick up a third box and attach it to the two I already have.
I'm a bit concerned about the ISD being too big, but I'll cross that boat when it gets here from China. The last thing I'm looking for from a storage perspective is a bag akin to the size of a bag that comes from a folding lawn chair to carry my two mats and I'll be all set!

I use Battle Foam for X-Wing, but their decision to not have shapes for small ships made it easy to decide to use Sir Willi's boxes.
I'm using the plastic they shipped in. I've got a Plano for the tokens and 40-pocket ultrapro for cards. Right now it all fits in the core box, by the fighters are sloppy and hanying out in the space behind the threeships that came in the core set.
I got a Pelican case that was given to me.
Used pick and pluck foam for the bigger models and Plano style cases for the fighters and the bits.
The case has wheels and is impervious to damage lol
Not suggested if you get to buy it, these case are expensive!
So far I have ordered battle foam for my X-wing stuff and it should be here next week. I will have a better feel after that. I was not impressed by Battlefoam's armada offering, but will probably check them out at GenCon.
Thanks,
Duncan

I love me some Battlefoam. Still learning how to post things on this site, but you might be able to see my fleet and my battlefoam rig here: http://imgur.com/a/UnTm0

How thick is the foam did you use? I like how you have it laid out too.
The thick ones are 3.5 inches (pretty sure). Only the one with the AF and the gladiator is a custom. The rest are all Battlefoam standard issue. I'm looking forward to designing the foam for Wave II!
I use Portable Warfare bags and foam (Game Plus uses the same tray sizes so I have a couple of theirs too). I couldn't see using Battlefoam since it was more $ and does the same job.
Model storage? Say ello to my latest video
Have a look at the https://www.thediceshoponline.com/this is where I got my X-Wing cases.
