Can those printed ones be sanded down or something? They look like they would be OK but that...texture...that's a problem for paint.

There are various options to smooth out 3 prints - sanding is one, acetone and mixtures of acetone and filament are another.

Neither is wildly reliable especially on the sort of fine details we're talking about.

You could also hit the whole thing with some filler/greenstuff, but you'd still have to smooth the surface which wouldn't be easy.

Acrylic modelling paste (e.g. pebeo) could be a solution.

Update!

Brilliant stuff!

All these finalizing process for 3D printed objects are really interesting,

but I think that a better setup of my really cheap printer could be the first step.

Now I'm triyng something more difficult, I'll be in touch really soon.

So, the window canopy of one of my Aggressors came slightly under-filled from the factory, it's nothing major, but I'd like to fill it in before repainting the Aggressor. Seeing as I don't plan on going full bore with model modification in the short term, what would be the easiest way to fill it in?

Perhaps some green stuff, or liquid green stuff from Games Workshop...

... liquid green stuff from Games Workshop...

NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

He'll end up filling the hole and waiting for the liquid green stuff to dry (and inevitably... shrink and make no difference) about 50,000,000 times :D

Humbrol/Tamiya model filler pastes will work better. Or possibly milliput.

never used the liquid stuff myself, just the regular.

It was just a suggestion.

Sounds like you may have had a poor experience with it ;)

The regular stuff is great. As for the liquid green stuff you need to apply so many layers it's just not worth your trouble unless the gap is very very tiny.

Applied straight from the pot however it's great for adding texture. (fur coat on Yarpen from ffg's Witcher TAG)

Now I'm finally satisfied of the mechanical setting of my 3Drag,
and I found an interesting setup of Simplify3D.
Many many thanks to the author of the file ,
It's simply perfect !

I wanted to repaint a T-70 just for Poe, I was reading up on it and everything, when I saw an amazing steampunk T-70 done by a local artist. After asking him for his rates, I knew I could not beat that, and I wanted Poe to have an amazing ride. Boy did he deliver:

I fully intend to get (back) into painting, but this is not something I could have pulled off. Last I painted minis was 20 years ago, there was no YouTube full of tips, so I'm sure I'd get up to speed quickly, but I doubt my hands are steady enough to get that level of detail.

Beautiful! definitely one of the best Poe's I have seen.

Now there is yet another repaint to make me doubt my skills and abilities

Cockpit window will be painted dark blue later on. I'm thinking to give it some black stripes (missile pod is also black), but any ideas for the stripes/accents and missile warhead colors would be much appreciated!

Looks good so far.

I suggest going over it with a wash to add some depth and detail to the model.

In regards to stripes.... It all depends on what you like really...

- Single stripe going from nose to tail

- Single stripe on 1 or both wings

- Double stripes on one or both wings, etc...

- Chevrons

- Lambda...

Colours that will go with the red base colour are:

- White

- Yellow

- Black

- Blue

Have a good look around this forum and on the internet for inspiration.

There is a lot of cool scoff stuff to look at/referrence, AND a lot of cool war planes too.

Good luck, and keep us posted

Thanks for the input Red7!

I'll definitely try some of the ideas you mentioned and update once it's done.

Nice work ladies and gentlemen!
