He'll get it out eventually. It doesn't look like he's in a battle, based on the expression; more like a sentence is about to be passed. Rule of Badass sometimes gets to trump realism, even in GRRM's world.

Awww. I actually really like his art a lot! I'm not one to really focus on the artwork as much as others either! (That just means that maybe my standards are low, LOL)
