Arkham Horror Dice by Chessex

By The Professor, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Based on the interest generated by a series of posts/threads on the boardgamegeek.com site, I've contacted Chessex to produce AH dice based on the following categories..."Normal", "Blessed", and "Cursed".

Normal: '5' and '6' replaced by an Elder Sign

Blessed: '4'-'6' replaced by Elder Signs

Cursed: '6' replaced by an Elder Sign

If anyone's interested, please review the post entitled Arkham Horror Dice produced by Chessex at boardgamegeek (under AH).

Joe Casadonte, through an earlier post got the 'ball rolling' with regard to interest in this idea.

The Professor

Replied there, now replying here. When is the mass type order going out or, conversely, when is the artwork etc. in place for us to order?

Hey that's the idea I posted on the forums somewhere for FFG!

RevGiark,

Thanks for your continued interest in this endeavor. Unfortunately, the price-point has made a few individuals reconsider the purchase at this time. However, if you check out the posts at BGG, you'll see that a few of us have discussed the option of Elder Sign-ONLY dice, with no other pips. Aesthetically, they'll look very good, and we can find only two examples in the game whereby you would need to know a number, other than a success, when making a Skill Check (Both Unique Abilities for Investigators [Gerorge Barnaby, Lawyer and "Skids" O'Toole, Ex-Convict]).

While there are other times when you need to determine a 1 in 6 chance (losing a Retainer, Bless, or Curse) or a 3 in 6 chance (Specific Special Monster Attacks [Chthonians, Colour Out of Space, etc.] or paying on your Bank Loan), you'll have that ability with the Blessed (three sides with the Elder Sign) or Cursed (only one side with the Elder Sign).

While these dice shall still prove more expensive than your standard set of 7 polyheral dice, the artwork and unique quality may make it appealing to people. Again, more to come, as I continue to garner information from Joe at Chessex.

Cheers,

Joe

As I said on BGG, still interested. I currently use 12 dice (rarely need more than that) but 36 customs might be a bit steep. More on BGG.

RevGiark,

It might not be as steep as you think.

I was looking at the typical price for a Chessex die and it hovers around $1.40. Thus, if we get a few folks to push each order (one for 'Normal', one for 'Blessed', and one for 'Cursed') over 25, the cost becomes $.75/side and then the cost actually rival the normal cost of dice.

Example...36 Chessex dice at $1.40 = $50.40

Scarab Dice

Scarlet w/silver 1-side etched w/Elder Sign @ $.75/die x 12 dice = $9.00
Jade w/silver 2-sides etched w/Elder Sign @ $1.50/die x 12 dice = $18.00
Royal Blue w/silver etched w/Elder Sign @ $2.25/die x 12 dice = $27.00
36 Custom Chessex Dice for $54.00!

Not bad for a couple extra bucks.

The Professor

Okay, still a bit pricey, but not out of the realm of possibility. I think, at that price point, I would go ahead with it myself.

To All,

THis is great news and I wanted to share as soon as posible ~ Our order has surpassed multiple pricing thresholds; thus the following price list is in effect:

All dice are etched on 1, 2, or 3 sides; all other sides remain blank
Scarab-Scarlet w/silver Elder Sign etching; 1-side: $.50
Scarab-Jade w/silver Elder Sign etching; 2-sides: $1.00
Scarab-Royal Blue w/silver Elder Sign etching; 3-sides: $1.50

With this news I'm strating a new thread, because I want to cast a net as wide as possible in the next 24 hours. Anyone interested in seeing photos of the dice (which look outstanding!), please pass along your e-mail address.

The Professor

For pictures: [email protected] and [email protected].

At those prices I'll probably buy 20 regulars, 5 curses and 5 blessings. I think you have a paypal acount, so send it along too please.
