2015 Nationals Results

It is gencon : drop when appropriate and go enjoy nerd Valhalla. This isn't about hacking a stiff English upper lip :)

I am flying Han with Luke, C3P0, title, engine, and predator. Jake has vi, ptl, title, Prockets, and auto thrusters. (97). William in second place is flying exactly he same list !

If I was at a regional and not performing well, our even the national at a different venue, I wouldn't drop, but I'd say there's nothing wrong with dropping at nationals the way it is because it's at a huge convention. I'd rather be enjoying the convention and just play more x wing when I get home.

Turrets galore and no phantoms. Dat phantom nerf doe.

It is nice to see that the only named A-wing in my House Rules that I did not tweak has been doing well in Regionals and now Nationals!

Built and flown correctly, Jake is almost the Rebel Soontir. =) To me, that makes Han/Jake kind of the Rebel version of Chirpy/Fel.

Yep, 3 actions on both. I still think Soontir is slightly better because of the 3 native attack, stealth device stack, and more flexibility with his action economy, but Jake's Proton Rockets at least helps offset the damage difference.

The only reason Jake isn't the Rebel Soontir (capable of PS9 + PTL no less!) is because he trades an attack die for cheaper durability. He even ends up with the same capability of boost+roll+focus triple-threat actions.

In general play, this is a perfectly reasonable deal - but in terms of 'murdering entire lists singlehandedly', that extra attack die is a critical advantage in shooting through the defensive token stacks of his ace counterparts, be they Soontir, Iggy, or Corran. Target Lock helps (Especially at boosting those range-1 shots when you get the chance), and Prockets can give you a critical damage spike... but it's a handicap in such mirror-duels, no doubt.

... of course, flown as a wingman to a super-murdery ship like a Predator+Luke'd Han Solo... yeah, you have better odds of those particular ships not being a problem by the time you're the last man standing, and you're a right pain in the ass against everyone else. ;)

Han/Jake lists also land at 97 points. That's the real power versus Fel.

Point cost: the great equalizer

Well done with our list! You didn't even need any tips from little old me!

Thanks all, lets see if some boots on the ground can fill in the rest of the red TBDs this morning!

Edit -- pulled in some updates from the NOVA Facebook page.

Up-to-date-list will be kept on post #2 here:

**** only 2 Imperial lists and 0 SV lists in the top 16 so far? I find that surprising, particularly the S&V part, especially with how well IG88s have been performing in smaller tournaments, but maybe that's the key difference.

There were at least three Brobots lists in the photo I posted from the top table in Round 7. Did they all lose?

James Beaver flies BroBots and he finished further down the final standings, but I don't know if he was high up enough to be on those tables.

We need Sable Gryphon and "Crashing Rebellion-fest" to the rescue.

The tables are set. Dials are down. Engines are started. And there are 8 B-wings on table 6.

Big ship turrets and B-Wings. Yay.

Hmm, but why not Tycho over Jake? Yes he gets 1 less action, but he's pretty much immune to stress, can use the whole dial and he goes up to PS10 which even beats Corran if you go for 97pts.

Because he gets 1 less action and is 2 points more expensive.

1 less action. With AT and PTL Jake can shrug off a lot of fire from turrets while boosting. Tycho can't do that and just dies.

There seems to be a lot more diversity than that. There's even a tie swarm!

Though I wish we were seeing more imperial lists. Mais, c'est la vie.

Cons:

  • He loses access to barrel roll completely, so post maneuver repositioning is significantly worse
  • He gets one less action
  • He gains +1PS but costs 2 points more.

Pro:

  • He does gains access to the entire dial minus K-turns, but the A-wing / TIE Interceptor already have so much green on the dial (i.e. hard 2) that it almost doesn't matter

I have always considered Tycho overcosted by about 2 points, but Jake is OK. This seems validated by the last few months of tournament results.

I guess i understand, but it probably also depends on your local meta a lot. If you see a lot of Corrans i'd argue that Tycho is still your guy because it will be that much easier to land those prockets on Corran if you move after him. Can't argue with results though, obviously.
