I don't know. The similar list I faced (twice, two different opponents) at Plano had ICT Y's and AS B's. Killed me good the first time.

Mishary was running his regionals dash and Chewie build. Kyle Adams was running mangler dash and ptl/engine corran.

It's actually Tom Reed's dash chewie build (he finished top 4 with it in the UK nationals). That dash build is very nice.

Why did you decide to drop out? Feel like it's a bit of a shame to do so. Skews the scoring and prevents another three players having the opportunity to play the World Champion.

0-3 drop! I've been having a terrible run lately. I've got to stop spending all this time playing FFG's other games.

Why did you decide to drop out? Feel like it's a bit of a shame to do so. Skews the scoring and prevents another three players having the opportunity to play the World Champion.

This is hardly fair. First, it's Gencon there are plenty of other fun things to do than stay in the tournaments hall for what ended up being almost 14 hours playing X-wing, particularly when you knew you couldn't qualify. Secondly it took 6 hours to even play 3 games due to software crashes, early lunch, constant repairings.

Now the system itself failed pretty hard, multiple people each round ended up with no opponent because drops were not always reported, even though it specifically had a box to check on the results sheet. But this was more a problem with the whole system as there was no real incentive to let them know you were dropping.

i am one of the most competitive guys i know, and i think anyone dropping out is utterly pathetic, unless due to illness or emergency. maybe it's just the British sense of fair play, but this smacks of a no-win-no-fun sort of attitude that most of us find pretty reprehensible. so you lose a few game, everyone has a bad day every now and again. suck it up, enjoy the rest of the days gaming and do better next time.

People drop for different reasons.

I dropped after gong 1-3 at the Plano (TX) Regional. I made the mistake of continuing to fly the same Brobots list that I was honestly tired of flying, and I wasn't enjoying it that particular day. I was making bad strategic and tactical decisions which were being compounded by atrocious dice. Mentally, I had reached a point where I would have been an unpleasant opponent to play against and that wasn't fair to my last 3 potential opponents. For my sake and theirs, I called it a day (and in a field of 115, I probably wasn't missed). Compounding all of this was that - like Nationals - the organizers were struggling with the tournament software and we had some significant delays.

I don't think it's fair of any of us to judge Paul for doing what he wanted to do with the rest his day, particularly at GenCon where there is so much else to see and do.

How does it skew the scoring? SOS isn't a tiebreaker.

You can't judge another person without being in their shoes. If I was Paul first of all I'd just wanna get the hell out of there as fast as I could just so I didn't have to listen to person after person come up to me and go you went 0-3 OMG?! Second of all this has nothing to do with fair play so please don't bring that into it the only people Paul would've been playing for the rest of the event were other people who had no chance of making the cut so ultimately his drop has no real affect on the outcome of the tournament. People who have played in large events or gone the distance in a regional know what it's like when you start getting into the 5th, 6th, 7th game and on it starts to wear on you both mentally and physically. It's not like hanging out with your friends on a Saturday night, drinking a beer and playing some goofball list you've never flown before, it almost starts to become not fun having to play the same list in the same cramped area over and over again, but your competitive will pushes you through it. With nothing left to play for though, it gets kinda hard to get up for that.

As for people trying to say that now other people won't have a chance to play the world champ this may come as a bit of a shock to yall but Paul is not FFG property to be rolled out every large event and used for our amusement, he is a free man who is free to do what he wishes when he wants.

This is ridiculous I'm arguing something so small and petty but seriously get over it people.
