ship/pilot/upgrade reviews???

By velocitydog, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey all, I'm a brand-new player to the game. Going to play my third game this weekend (non-beginner game) and have so far collected two X-wings, Y-wings, A-wings and B-wings. I was wondering if anyone had done any kind of review for these ships, pilots and/or cards (best pilot combo, best/words upgrades, best situational use, etc.). I tried searching earlier posts but nothing came up (doesn't mean they're not there). My opponent is also pretty new and has 1-3 of all of the TIE fighters to choose from.

Anyway, if there is/are such review(s) please point me in the right direction.

Many thanks!

Metal Bikini is a great resource for newer players - good analyses of various pilots, ships and upgrades that will give you lots of ideas.

Some of the older articles may be a bit out of date due to newer releases that change the options, but generally it's a very solid place to start :)

This post is all math, lot's to learn from reading this.

Generally x-wings are considered a bit ineffective(but not much), they're good all around
Y-wings are very tactical ships
A-wings are good as flankers
B-wings are considered the best of the bunch (as they hit hard and can tank a lot of damage)

As far as pilotes go:
x-wings, i suggest sticking to the named ones (Wedge and Biggs make a good combo)
y-wings, if you want to use them test a gold squadron with ion for starters

a-wings, anything will do here, i suggest either a really cheap one(stick on chaardan refit card for lower cost, hope you have it!) or run Tyhchu Gelchu or Jake Farrel with Push the Limit, they are fun.
b-wings, cheap and cheerful blue squadrons are good for starters.

I suggest for 100 pts:
Bidge 25 pts
Wedge, r2-d2, 33 pts
Blue Squadron pilot, 22 pts

This leaves you with 24 pts, spend them on one of these:
-Another Blue 22 B-wing
-Jake Farrel
-Tyhchu Gelchu(give him chaardan refit and push the limit, remove r2-d2 from wedge)
-Gold squad Y-wing with Ion Turret

I came here to recommend The Metal Bikini too. It helped me a lot when I first got into this game.

Also (if you haven't already) check out MajorJuggler's List of Useful Links. Lots of helpful info.

In addition, if you build a list and want some feedback, post a copy in the Squad List sub-forum and get some feedback. Be sure to tell people what you have, and what you are aiming to achieve (fun, competetive, utilising certain ships or upgrades, etc.)

Finally, welcome to both the forums here and the game. I personally found that the folk here are beyond awesome, infinitely helpful and always friendly. It's a great game with a great community. You'll love it!

This is exactly what I was looking for, many thanks all!

I suggest for 100 pts:

Bidge 25 pts

Wedge, r2-d2, 33 pts

Blue Squadron pilot, 22 pts

-Tyhchu Gelchu(give him chaardan refit and push the limit, remove r2-d2 from wedge)

-Gold squad Y-wing with Ion Turret

Might want to check the math on that one, I count 80 points with only 20 left over.

I would suggest a subtle change, an recommend a classic list I tell all beginners to try out:

Wedge + Swarm Tactics

Biggs

Blue Squadron Pilot

Blue Squadron Pilot

Lots of firepower and is a good starter list

yup, forgot about r2-d2.
Mace Windu has a good list! :)
