State of the Game?

Really? How can anyone have a hard time keeping up with only 1 99 card set coming out every 3 months. The secondary market for this game is so cheap and the sets are so small. I am not working and come from a very poor family and I have playsets of every Tekken C/UC already and near playsets of every rare.

Secondly this technically isn't ANOTHER set dropping this is a set that was originally supposed to come out alongside Tekken but didn't because FFG decided to do singles sets for whatever stupid reason. Even with only one set they STILL had so many delays and now you are saying you hope there are even more? I am tired of delays and I want to get Soul calibur out of the way ASAP so that this game can(hopefully) because UFS again instead of NFS(Namco Fighting System

you mad?

Go ask the various people complaining about availability of cards.

Stores with player bases were refusing to bring in the product because they were complaining that two sets at once were too much, and in the current economic climate, they were unwilling to take the risk on bringing out two sets at once. So - Bring out one set at a time - more stores carry UFS.

More stores carrying UFS = More UFS sales & More UFS Players.

I like more players. Hell, with the release of Tekken, and the rotation, the attendance at my shops weekly UFS night has doubled this month. It's been fantastic.

Yep.

Because of problems beyond FFG's control, Canada did not get Tekken until 2 weeks ago. Literally.

You're saying that you want another set to drop in two more weeks.

That would mean that we would only have 1 month to play in a specific meta.

That is too much, too fast. We have a problem already where it appears a majority of the players because of how quickly the product releases, do not actually get a chance to fully explore the meta, and really get a chance to enjoy the game at its fullest.

I would really love to see people explore different aspects of the game, and get to play with more then 10% of a set.

Go and poll the players on here. How many of them actually own a full playset of commons and uncommons from each set? How many of them actually own a playset of rares? Ultra Rares? The vast majority don't. From what I am seeing from personal experience is that too many players can't afford to aquire playsets of most sets. (Not just the commons/uncommons) With one set at a time, with these small 99 card sets, it's going to be easier for players to collect more of a set. They're not going to have to split their purchases between two sets. Infact I'm already seeing players trying to collect more of the entier set, rather then just one or two characters for the set. If players have more different cards, they can build more different decks.

When players start expanding what they're willing to look at, the game gets deeper, and that's really healthy for the game.

So while you call it "delay after delay" I call it sanity.

<side note... I think I'm going to start a poll about collections>

Now pay close attention to the part where Steve says and i quote "Soul Calibur is already in the warehouse so it will absolutely ship in October."

Thanks for trying to make me look like I know nothing though... Makes me want to post even less than I already do.

Al I gotta say is this: Told ya so! One day I'll find a job where I can miss deadline after deadline and NOT get Uncle Phil tossed out of the building... One day

Stop right there. It's pretty much a proven fact that nobody here could possibly care about the Canadian situation... except the Canadians, obviously. So when you say "one month" for them.

Also, two boxes = approx. 180 bucks for 48 rares, 2 box toppers and a playset of every common and uncommon in the set. Double that for two sets. 180 is generally my limit per set release, as the sets all release in times where I can't afford to spend too much.

The UK only got Tekken 2 weeks ago as well, so it's not like you guys are alone. I still want SCIV now if possible.

Anyway, October doesn't necessarily mean 2 weeks' time, could be up to 6 weeks. 8 weeks between releases (for those of us who got the extra delays) should be an acceptable compromise.

To throw some fuel on the fire here, I get a copy of GTM and Previews free from my FLCS. For those that havent seen either, they are Alliance's preorder forms/catalog for Gaming and Comics, and are what stores use to order product from Alliance. Alliance itself is one of (if not THE biggest) distributors of comics and games in North America. It's important to note that companies need to list product early so that Alliance can put it in their magazines, stock it, and then distribute it in time for the retail release dates. Stuff that is being released in October, for instance, would generally be listed in the August or September issues.

The new SCIV set has yet to be listed in either GTM or Previews. Because of this, I find it entirely unlikely for the new set to come out anytime before November.

maybe they meant october for prerelease ;o

I'm impatient by nature, and I read a lot of the threads here and go, "man...you guys are impatient!"

Sept isn't over yet. About a week remaining, but still. Also, there doesn't really seem to be any reason the set wouldn't ship out in Oct, aside from the fact that FFG is FFG.

Creating more space between releases. That's the only valid reason - unless there's some shipping problems.

Mm...I don't think they particularly care for more spaces between the releases. They were intended to be bundled together, Tekken was delayed, they know we hate seeing delays, and we'd like to hopefully see some more non-Fire cards comin out, so, mm, I'm pretty certain IF they can go for Oct, they will.

Actually I was talking about Late October...so more like 4-5 weeks.

One the one hand, more time between sets is good for the Meta and my wallet.

On the other, I can't wait for a playable Mitsurugi or Voldo.

Mitsurugi and Xianghua have been confirmed, I am thinking new Voldo, Taki and Maxi/Kilik will be the other new characters

Mitsurugi
Xianghua confirmed

Guesses at 3 remaining:

-Taki: Never been released without Mitsurugi, no playable version, fan fav.
-Amy: On the art of "the newcomers"

-Voldo: Haven't had one in a while, fan favorite.
-Yoshimitsu: The set was designed to coincide with Tekken, which did not have Yoshimitsu. Haven't had one in a while.
-Rock: Haven't had one in a while, he's always been crap, and was in the first Soul Blade game.

promo rock wasnt crap o_o

I think he means every other non-Howard Rock ever. Definitely not the one that goes "yay, I take no damage ever because I run foundations".

There's a bunch up on ebay if I remember right.

And I'm also interested if they will print a Voldo true to character (mill), or butcher him to the point where me and Omar can't even sacrafice a copy to the mill gods....

True to character? Mill is true to Voldo's "character"? Yeah, because contorting and doing acrobatic moves to finish you off with two freaking hand blades equates to mill.

Yeah freaking right. I hope if they do print Voldo that he moves the hell away from mill FOREVER.

MILL IS BORING AND STALE. Boring and stale don't have a place in the new meta.

You do know it actually quite possible to make will that is not boring and stale. Attacks that mill for instance...

Sorry shoulda been more specific... True to UFS character, not the video game character, which FFG in the end doesn't care about anyways, otherwise someone like Sagat would have abilities that benefit ranged attacks, Maxi would actually be playable etc etc.

And last I checked, multiple ways to win a card game did not make said game stale. Am I asking for a reprint of Promo Bishamon, lord no... But something that required a bit more thought than just spamming grey, while still being able to mill would be nice.

Run Nina, call it a day.

BTW, Sagat may not have had a benefit from playing ranged attacks, but then again back then you only got 3 attacks. Not much you can do with 3 attacks theme-wise. Astrid seems to like weapons, Lu Chen likes Reversals, Christie seems to like kicks, Kazuya seems to want to blow you up, Paul throws a bunch of punches, Nina takes out problems from far away, King throws a lot... the new UFS kind of DOES care about what a character does and about character traits being a part of the flavor.

That said, no, Voldo should never come back to mill. If I were to design him, I'd give Voldo a bonus every time he plays an attack with a different keyword than the last one, since he does jump around, twirl and switch from kicking to cutting to other things, or give him a bonus for each different keyword in his card pool. THAT is the way he plays.

This is true. Very few characters, if any, are so defensive in fighting games that they conciously go for a time out as their win condition.

Voldo is also fast and crawls around a lot. I'd say he would be the 7hs male we are looking for out of promos, and with relatively low vitality (he does seem relatively fragile in game - at least to me).
