Will there be an Arkham Horror surprise at Gencon??

By diablo666, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I am REALLY hoping so.

At least an announcement of things to come.

What do you guys think?

maybe. If I was going, Id definately pester whoever or whatever was at the stand for spoilers, once I had them tied up in the broom cupboard.

I just want to know how that crazy "you got your card game in my board game" Call-of-Ctharkham-Horror thing is gonna work out...and if the wacky Story Cards they plan to use will be available in any secondary market capacity.

Whats that about, sounds interesting?

???

Are the merging the LCG into AH? Turning the LCG into a playable board game?

"The third entry this week is our combination of Arkham Horror and Call of Cthulhu Card Game. The town of Arkham is shrouded in mystery and rumor. Ancient Evil is attempting to break into our reality, and a handful of brave men and women are determined to prevent this. Each must weigh their desire to protect against the chance that they will go mad in the process. Call of Cthulhu pits faction against faction, in a no holds barred battle. Each side vies to see certain events take place, or be entirely prevented from reaching fruition. Decks draw from the various groups found within the Mythos lore such as Cthulhu, Miskatonic University, and Hastur. As these groups may often find each other with overlapping interests, there are no clear cut lines of right and wrong. As each game of Call of Cthulhu revolves around a set of events, called Story cards, these seemed a natural way to influence the world of the Arkham Horror board game. Every Story card has had new text added that may help their Arkham compatriots, or doom the opposition to utter madness. Each team will have 2 representatives taking on the task of Call of Cthulhu, while the rest must battle with the Ancient Ones in Arkham Horror. Every story won in the Call of Cthulhu game will have an effect in the Arkham game, an effect that could mean the difference between victory and crushing terror. For example, a more positive effect might be that each investigator may choose 1 item from the common item deck, beginning with the first player and rotating clockwise. Something a bit more sinister, raise the terror level by 1 for each monster in a street location. As these stories are revealed during the card game, players must coordinate their efforts to prevent the worst effects from happening. This may drive more than a few insane."

Awesome, a natural fit and a clever tie in (I would say that as I have over 3000 blackborder cards).

As far as I can tell, the story cards in the lcg will have triggered effects on them that affect the arkham game the idea being that two teams can play off in 2 different games at once and one affects the other. This is cool, but since Arkham Horror is not competitive and the lcg is, Im finding it hard to see how this will work uness there are multiple games of AH going on, one for each team.

Also, assuming I understand correctly, I wonder about how they fix the timing issues between games. Is one turn of AH equal to 1 or 2 turns of the lcg?

And yes, Ill bet there will be some market follow through and this stuff will become more available, just because its such a brilliant way to market two games at once. The special story cards at the heart are very simple and easy to produce, but may only appear in the lcg league packs or some other promotional stuff, certainly not in the asylum packs.

And even if that is the case, how does one part of your team play against each other while the rest play cooperatively? Wouldn't the LCG players start trying to "throw" the most beneficial story cards to each other?

And that's the other thing. A good LCG match could take less than an hour easily; Arkham Horror in less than an hour is usually the sign of a universe-obliterating defeat. As far as I can see, the only thing compatible between the two games...is the ARTWORK! Hence my fascination in this frankengame.

Which is all I'm looking for. It wasn't that hard to locate the ultra-rare promo Yithian Deck, so long as you weren't trying to be the "first on your block" to own one.

Im assuming, probably incorrectly, that the two players dont face off against each other but against a player or two from another team. That way story cards would be hotly contested as they would have negative effects on one game and positive effects on another. And as for timing I think they might fold 2 or more (depending on size of lcg faceoffs) lcg turns into thhe mythos phase of AH, so that all teams get to make moves.

So ?! Nobody was over there ?!
