Future expansions?

By Simon_86, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

What about future expansions?
After Innsmouth Horror there will be other expansions? Anyone know something about?

Yes, Kevin and Richard know. And whoever was working on it about a year ago, if there was anyone...see, we dont know yet, but since they work on things way in advance, if there is something, its already in the pipeline.

Nobody here is saying anything at the moment, and nothing has leaked. I have been looking into my leng glass to see what I could see (it worked for innsmouth horror about 2-3 years ago, I learned about the DoR track, or really the concept of it). But alas, this time the glass clouded with bilious smoke, and all sound expired but for a preteranatural tittering.

Until now, small box and big box expansions always alternated, and the small box expansions refered to an Ancient One from the base game. If that sequence continues, we may see a small box expansion with a Yig or Ithaqua theme (there were expansions with a theme focused around Nyarlathotep (CotDP), Hast** (KiY), Shubb Niggurath (BGotW), Yog-Sothoth (DH) and Cthulhu (IH)). I don't think there will be an Azathozth expansion, but who knows?

A Yig expansion would tickle my insides. With snakes.

You mean when they eat you from the inside gran_risa.gif ?

And I wouldn't mind a "chilling" expansion with Ithaqua. Like maybe one with more Gnoph-Keh? Both Yig and Ith could benefit from their own Specialty Herald.

I don't think the game really needs another big box expansion. They used to come out roughly 18 months apart, now with Innsmouth following Kinsport barely 12 months later, it's too soon IMO and doesn't really leave me wanting some more yet. I still haven't played Black Goat and I don't even have Innsmouth yet.

I know its been said but an "at the moutains of madness" expansion I think would be good.

(Why did you censor "Hastur"?)

I was thinking along those lines, but the thing is that those five GOO's (plus Azathoth) are the ones that seem to have become properly significant in the mythos (to my limited knowledge) whereas all others we've got seem to be a bit more 'minor'. FF's take on that seems to be reflected by their factions in the Cthulhu Card Game.

That said, a Native American themed expansion catering to both Yig and Ithaqua would be interesting, but would risk skirting pretty near Lovecraftian political incorrectness. As appropriate to the man as that is, I don't think FF really wanna go there (although having "The Black Man" as a monster does induce some giggles...).

As for an Antarctic board expansion... Well, I know the story is a fan favourite, but really, people: How would you characterise neighbourhood encounters in an arctic wasteland?? And how would investigators get there in the first place? Paying a dollar to get the train? Three dollars for a chartered flight from Miskatonic? And they automatically have rations and supplies? I suppose Kingsport introduced silly things as well, but I think an "Antarctica Horror" board expansion would be the proverbial (?) shark jump.

No, the big box expansions seemed to me to seek to cover all of Lovecraft Country. If Wikipedia's entry has been precise enough (again, my real Lovecraft knowledge is limited), then Arkham Horror has covered all fictional bases.

Ugh, that was all very stream of consciousness... Suffice to say, I think they've finished the big box expansions beautifully while small box expansions still have potential to come out, but they'll probably begin to be a bit more leftfield than being themed around a single specific Old One as has previously been done.

Oh, we were talking about Avi? I thought we were talking about forum user, "Hastur." Whoops, I said it. Sorry preocupado.gif

BTW Avi, how (where) was your trip? Please don't say you went to the mountains of madness. Or Pluto.

Sorry, The Mountains of Madness are my next trip.

Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Paris, Venice, Florence, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Lisbon, Sintra, London, and finally Pluto for my flight home, errr, I mean Dublin.

The trip was long and exhausting. For the first three weeks I powerwalked for 12 hours a day on average, my peak amount of torture travel was in Paris where I walked 16 hours and returned home missing most of the skin on one of my toes. During the trip both my inner thighs also disintegrated midway through. My natural and healthy response? Bought giant strips of gauze, taped them onto the flesh, continued walking in my bloody pants. Walking like a bowlegged cowboy, or a man with hemaroids, but walking nevertheless.

Ooo... And I just got the beginnings of an idea for a new Ancient One ;'D I'll need to give it some more thought though.

;') something like that. Some sort of AO that compels movement without backtracking. I'm trying to decide on a consequence for failure to exhaust one's full movement, currently I'm toying with either 2 sanity loss or drawing a madness card (I'm a little worried about retirement exploits, so it might be forcing the player to discard an item and a sanity— thematically lightening one's burden in order to travel faster).

Hi Mylo,

"the Black Man" in AH and in the HPL story "the Dreams in the Witch House" is I believe supposed to refer to the devil (here nyarlathotep) appearing as a jet black man in the european witch tradition (or perhaps fear of that tradition). I don't think "the Black man" is black in the sense of black African. RAther a black caucasian.

Not that there isn't plenty of rascist stuff in HPL's work. I think the worst offender is the revision story "Medusa's Coil".
