New to AH, and a little question

By Pipeweed, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hi all. Just recently started playing AH. Got a question about the spell "Find Gate". The spell states "cast and exhaust to return to Arkham from a Out World". Must the caster return to a gate that leads to the OW he was in? What if there is no such gate on the board? In the second case, does he get lost, or could he choose a place to return to?

thx

In most cases, "return to Arkham" means return to a gate on the board that leads to the Other World you are in. If there is no such gate and you're trying to return, then you are Lost in Time and Space. Unless, that is, you have the item "Gate Box", which specifically lets you return to any open gate you want.

If no gate is open to the OW the investigator with Find Gate is in, casting FG would put him LiTaS. So probably take your chances and go through the OW normally, hoping a gate opens.

Ironically, this situation occurred in a recent game. Jim Culver got sent to the City of the Great Race with Find Gate (he was sent there by an encounter telling him to draw the top gate token, move to that OW and replace the gate token on top, so it would be the nex gate). I wasn't worried, he's got Find Gate. Sadly, neither of the next 2 Mythos phases opened a gate, so FG was useless and Jim was LiTaS regardless. Just another reason to hate him I guess.

For a working, kick-ass (or too powerful, take your pick) combo: Gate Box + Find Gate. Gate Box allows you to choose which gate to return to and FG speeds up the OW portion.
